Forward Chinese destroyer type 055. The Chinese Navy has published a promo video about the destroyers of project 055. The first destroyer of the 4th generation, project 055, was first launched in 2014. Type 055 destroyers are so large that they are classed as cruisers in the US. Ships of this series are being built very quickly, short construction times have been achieved due to the modular-sectional approach. The ship is equipped with a Type 346B radar capable of detecting large targets at ranges up to 600 km. The destroyer has modular vertical launchers for missiles, the total ammunition load is 112 missiles. To destroy surface and coastal targets, the destroyer can use YJ-18 and CJ-10 cruise missiles. Air defense at medium and long ranges is carried out using HHQ-9 and HHQ-16 missiles. There are also CY-5 anti-submarine missiles. The ship is equipped with a 130-mm artillery system, 30-mm machine guns, an HJ-10 anti-aircraft system with 24 missiles and electronic warfare systems. To combat underwater targets, there are two 324 mm torpedo tubes. The displacement of the ship is 13,000 tons. At the moment, the destroyers of this project are considered among the most powerful in the world.

This is the rumored 14th Five Year Plan (2021-2025) for nuke subs:

1) 8 x 093B SSNs

2) 1 x 095 SSN

3) 2 x 094B SSBNs.

Type 093/A/B will form majority of SSN force. Type 095 is the J-20 of China's nuke subs. They will be mass produced at Huludao after the 093Bs:
typecurrentnewtotal (2025)
091 SSN33
093 SSN10818
095 SSN11
092 SSBN11
094 SSBN628

The WZ-7 uses a WP-13 turbojet (same as on J-7s)!

Here are the engines powering China's drones! Full range of options :D

WP-13 is a turbojet.
YF50 is a rocket engine.
AEF50 is a turbofan.
AEP60 is a turboprop.

Missing one more powerplant option for drones: the super-charged piston engine.

TB-001 variant can use three of them (probably HS-7/8 from Harbin)!

Reason behind using the different types of engines:

1) Rocket -- extreme speed, high altitude, low endurance

2) Turbojet -- high speed, high altitude, more endurance than rocket

3) Turbofan -- high speed, high altitude, more endurance than turbojet but more expensive

4) Turboprop -- lower speed and altitude but more endurance and less expensive

5) Supercharged Piston -- lower speed and altitude than turboprop but least expensive and can be very efficient on smaller aircraft like drones. Turboprops get less efficient as they get smaller. Pistons get more efficient as they get smaller! (Without supercharge, altitude is too low for most use cases.)

The KJ-500 has now become one of the most successful AEW systems around with the type being one of the few that are mass produced in numbers! Many nations procure and fly only a handful. There are anywhere between 30 to 50 KJ-500s with numbers growing every year.

KJ-500 along the balance-beam AEW KJ-200 are all part of the Y-9 transport family.

Watch the Y-9 pulse assembly line at Shaanxi and see how all the different special mission aircraft are built from the base aircraft on the factory floor!

Any info on this new frigate?

Type 054B Frigate
Type 054B Frigate (foreground) compared to the in-service Type 054A. Unofficial / fan-made computer rendering. The graphic is based on a commemorative coin but its providence is uncertain.

China’s Type 054B Next-Gen Frigate Under Construction?
A new warship hull widely assumed to be the Type 054B next generation frigate for the Chinese Navy (PLAN) has commenced final assembly at Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai.

bigger ship might mean more, bigger or longer range missiles. Days of US numerical superiority in total VL cells numbered?

Location Gar County, ~60 km from Indian positions at Demchok. in mid 2020, PLA started a massive buildup in the area which includes a Combined Arms unit base (probably reorganised Xinjiang Military Region) troops and a semi-permanent base 4 km from it. 1/n

This base is still operational in what seems to be a state of readiness. Hundreds of shelters, vehicles, tents, trenches and related military infrastructure is visible. As of now, I have no idea which unit it is or purpose of this buildup. 2/n

~4 km east, there is this medium sized military base, construction started in 2016. Construction was relatively slow, but picked up pace and was finished in 2020. Large numbers of towed artillery, IFVs and trucks are visible. Seems to be a reorganised XMR unit. 3/n

4.5 km north-east from that base, PLA has constructed this bheliport for Army Aviation Brigade. It was just a helipad in 2016. There is another huge military area with residential and training facilities plus a HQ-9 SAM site 4/n

There is 361st BDR Regiment close to heliport. Additionally, there are 2 other new constructions. One is a residential complex. While the other seems to be reinforced storage for munitions & similar war like stores. PLA is spending a lot of resources in this sector. 5/5
