That is the thing. These people don't even realise that day in day out they are using Microsoft, Adobe, Google, Twitter etc. none of which is owned by these so called desi software giants. Ignorance is bliss. If you show them the mirror, they dub you Marxist (sic) ! And when ignorance meets arrogance, the cocktail becomes self-destructive.
Bad logic. Software is a globalized industry. It makes no sense for India to be effective player only if it competes directly with Microsoft and Google.

India has its niche where it is playing nicely.

You are wasting your own time arguing with ... . Chinese produce cheap to high end products. Indians also write cheap to excellent quality code and do magnificent engineering work in all fields including hardware, electronics. All high end tech companies are not stupid to hire indians in large quantities. There are lot of Indians working in higher management as well, just that they are owned by American corporates.

Why do you think Indian software quality is bad? Any evidence?

Quality is not bad for the job it does. The job it does is mediocre. There are other softwares that are far more sophisticated. Let me give you one anecdote. Ever heard of Splunk? Tell me, what product from an Indian IT company comes anywhere close to that?

Indian industry has been mostly service based and yes you are right, our products are not normally very Hi-tech. Yes, but that is changing, Indian market is exactly where US was in 2002 when the dot com bubble was bursting. Venture capitalist are not putting any more money in in e-commerce.. AI and IOT are the two things that VC's are looking for now.... Source: I have been putting my head on a product in Indian market from a while.... so gear up for a big change in the next decade India will catch up. Though yes we would need a new education policy for that too, we would need more spending in R&D in Universities setting up institutions like DARPA for beating US in long run.

I agree.

I would add, we need to focus more on mathematics - and I mean, hardcore mathematics, and other core sciences. Most engineering colleges in India focus on churning out coders. IITs and IISc are certainly excellent, but much of the rest is, at best, run-off-the-mill.

Have you seen the competition where different teams competed against each other in making a Lunar Lander? R&D in the US, Europe, and Russia, are certainly way advanced. India has a lot of catching up to do.

I couldn't have spoken better :) . Maths, we claim to be so great in mathematics but most of our engineers focus on mastering tools like C++ and JAVA, thinking them as subjects. I was part of small schools in India that did that, and that experience of slowly coming to the realization that the real "art of engineering" is hidden in Maths. And we don't have good teachers in Maths in India you are right. But that can be changed, and actually will change, I guarantee it .

Sorry guys but this forum is not for Indian IT industry discussion. What I included was the analogy in my post. Never intended to derail from the forum topic.

Topic is AMCA and lets try to stick to it.

Any latest news on AMCA?

Sorry man, you are correct. Let's get back to AMCA.

Well I am not convinced with your logic. First of all India cannot be compared with USA or Europe. Both have a 200 year lead in industrialization over India.

The biggest difficulty is in developing human resources (bigger challenge compared to infrastructure). Minds do not become scientific overnight.

India is growing today on the strength of industry and services (not natural resources) which require a high degree of competence and education.

I know personally people who are working in fairly complex and high tech projects right where I live.

India does not have institutional framework to support high-tech industries. How much loans this industry gets from banks? Banks still chase brick and mortar businesses. So whatever India achieved in software is nothing less than a miracle.

@pmaitra. Can you please open a thread? We need to discuss it in-depth. Here are 2 pictures of ISRO chairman, Dr. K. Radhakrishnan. He is pleading with Lord Tirupati on the eve of launch of GSLV MK II to make it a success (Top), thanks giving after successful launch on 5.1.14 (Bottom). He has more faith in divine intervention than his knowledge of physics. And making India a laughing-stock in the process around the world.

Well, I also agree that it isn't nice for a scientist to be religious he worked too instead of leaving everything. Nor he practized face in any disgusting way. Sometimes, going Temple before doing a new initiation becomes a trend.
We will further talk when you'll be able to launch rockets like RadhaKrishnan.

I never have claimed to be a Rocket Scientist...at the same time I can not appreciate a top Rocket Scientist going the way of an illiterate country-boor owing to lack of competence in his field.

I don't understand what you want to say.

It is not only Maths, also Physics. Modern human civilization is all about core engineering (Electrical / Mechanical). Even medical science depended wholly on core engineering, particularly diagnostics. Think of a humble ECG machine or a microscope to identify a microbe. Physics is everywhere. Talking of Infosys, TCS and likes, I know what level of work they do. Mostly maintaining databases for their foreign masters and doing plug jobs like updating a software patch. Not for nothing they are called cyber coolies. As for software engineers, you don't need a B.Tech. to write application softwares. School students can code in Java/ Action Script, most of the consumer softwares from financial to gaming.

It is not about size of companies...it is the scale and quality of their work which is beyond Indians. Both Microsoft & Google started out of garages with meagre resources, 100 times less than Infosys, TCS etc. They reached dizzying heights by sheer brilliance of their products, in about 12-13 years. What our desi companies achieved in the same span of time ?

:)Have you ever been to a Hospital? I am sure you might have. And I am sure too that you might have seen an idol of one god or other (preferably Ganesh) there in entrance. Or you might have seen some sort of sarva dharma sthal in some other hospitals. I've been born in a christian missionary hospital and my mom use to say that each and every morning before the start of day, the whole of hospital staff including doctor did used to pray before mother Mary and Jesus. Does it mean that they didnot have faith on themselves?

You might have seen temples, mosques, gurudwaras, churches in and around the barracks of our armed forces and might have also seen them offering prayer in them. Thus this mean that they don't have faith in the training they have got or in themselves?

You are right though, we need another thread for this.

Did he a crime?
I'm an atheist and even I have to go to temple daily with my mother.
I believed in God in my childhood as well and practiced worship.
But I never let religion come as hurdle in path of my life.
Did RadhaKrishnan scrapped any project for worship.
No, so what he did? o_O
He completed the work and his duty. He is so optimist and wants his project to success at any cost. So, he went once to temple also for his wish.
Even atheist students can be seen in temples during exams.

It's fear of failure, which's human nature.
RadhaKrishnan after completing his task wanted to do anything else possible.
Even if it's foolish. So, he went to temple thinking "may it also help" even if he doesn't believe it.
Hope you understand. :)
You can ask to a psychologist.
People can do anything for fulfilling their most wishes. There, they don't see right or wrong, praise or insult.
That's why world covered NAVIC, not temple.
I don't understand what you want to say.
This means you still have not seen world. You are cursing RadhaKrishnan for just worshipping in temple, do you know what religiously blind people do?

Your statement is against all Hindus since all Hindus take blessing of their god/gods before starting any major work, even going to war.

Faith and science have coexisted in almost all societies. I would loathe a USSR or China type of bland materialistic society.

Then you should have floated your own co. and beat those normal standard companies.

I doubt you know what tuple or attribute means. And here you are criticizing DB administrators.
How much it takes to deliver a project and how much organisation it needs to do it properly. All the while, your client breathing on your neck. Fukk you mate, you got some guts to flame.

No-life people does the easiest thing and tries to generalize things like some x did some thing and y dioes some thing.

I think your are jealous of IT people.
How much money they can earn in job and off job.

And your post related ISRO chairman bowing before Lord,

My advice is - learn the meaning of personal space. You don't have the right to decide what other people should do. It is what makes human free from nature.
