Once AMCA mk1 is flying we shall have a new program to develop proper replacement of su30mki in the class of ngad / fcas / tempest which shall see development period from 2030-2045 .

mki starts retiring from mid 30s, 2035.

Army told they will procure 7 squadron of LCH. LCA is already order for 83+40 in numbers. ALH were inducted into Indian Navy. Indian made destroyers, aircraft carriers etc etc are getting inducted into Navy. So what is your point. Modi needs to push defense products forcefully onto to Army and air Force.

LCH projected numbers were 65 and 114 for IAF and IA respectively. Already IA has cut this number to 70 units and between them all they have ordered are 15 SP airframes for which it took them years to even pay HAL for. Services saying they will order is one thing, you can only take contracts seriously so all these promises are meaningless.

the only thing Modi govt seems to have positively influenced is the LCA MK1A, without NDA/Parrikar there’s little chance this exists.

Other than I’m struggling to see what Modi has done for indigenisation, he has created ridiculous GTG deals and agreements for AK203, KA226, 11356 frigates etc

Arjun is still ignored, artillery is still a mess, fighters are still depleting and after 2025-7 the IN will not have a single large ship in production.

Pm dosent have time to look into each and every defence procurement project. to be blunt and honest
He can increase fundings though.
He is himself relying on what defence service chiefs say as he probably dosmt know about weapons and their nuances
DAC approves weapons purchases and not pm himself.

If you look at it from the IAFs point of view, I do get it -

1) They were promised 126 jets under the MMRCA competition and they got all of 36 - that's 5 squadrons short

2) While we can all be proud of the Tejas - the platform has taken 2 decades to mature and while returns on subsequent programs are linear - until we actually see an IOC variant of the Mk2, its just HALs word for it, if the Mark2 really does end up all it claims to be the MRFA haze will die - I doubt given the current macro environment we are cutting any major cheque... some where between first flight (next year) and series production (2026) the IAF will be politely asked to chill off...

But for all of this to happen, HAL needs to get its act together and deliver..

You’re moving the goalposts now aren’t you? You said Modi was ‘trying something’ and achieving better results than his predecessors, where’s the evidence for it? How many major deals have actually been signed under him? What major indigenous projects have taken off under him?

And he has plenty of experience as an executive, he should know by now that babus and netas lie and misrepresent. Everything I’ve heard about Modi is that he’s data driven and wants to see objective results. How is he not able to track this when it comes to MoD? The service chiefs report to the govt, it’s ultimately the fault of the govt if this nonsense goes on. 8 years is a bloody long time to have not made tangible gains, he’s allowed farces like P75I, NUH, MRFA, KA226, AK203 etc etc to occur and in some occasions he’s even encouraged it (KA226 and AK203)
