That depends what aircraft signed

If Rafale signed aircraft will be delivered
Delivered.
By 2024 to 2025

As we don't need logistics
And training logistics
before flying that jets

If F-35 it will take 3-4 years to get first lot
But
Considering USA production capacity
That will deliver all aircraft
By 2030

That means 114 fifth generation aircraft
By 2030
While for AMCA it will be possible by 2040 or 2042

I Still prefer getting F-35
If ever go for
MRFA

Because it is to stupid to to 20 billion $ on
4 th generation

When we Have 5th generation available

That gives Undisputed Edge over PLAAF for next 2 decades
MRFA would come with strategic partnership and Make in India condition. Keeping these things in mind, the negotiations itself for F-35 would take a decade.

America is not selling India F-35, not until they have gen 6th fighters fully operationalized. India is not a treaty ally and there are too many russian linkages and radars to russians that may potentially leak info.
Maybe so, but that's something we need to change, F-35 is the only game for the next decade or so. We didn't bother to get a counter for Pak F-16s with Amraam c for a decade and that showed in the balakot incident. Twiddling our fingure while the tye Chinese are rapidly adding capabilities is going to be disastrous.

ADA should be blamed for IAF not committing to MK2, they should have got the 1st prototype ready by now. At a public display should be carried out on priority, that's how you market your product and build opinion.
MK2 prototype is way ahead of amca, yet you can't find a single picture or public document to prove it's existence, this won't get trust from the customer.

Many people here deluding here
About rising PLAAF

Which had over 1000 + 4 th and 5th generation fighters in its inventory

Japanese being pragmatic airforce
Realized the threat

And ordered F-35 and f-15 next generation upgrades

In 2021 itself while

We are still waiting for our

Industry to get mature by next decade

Knowing PSU'S
Work culture

Multiple project like MWF ,OCRA,TEDF and AMCA is to much for them to handle .

Choice should be made either MWF or OCRA

And MRFA will come as IAF will want to
Maintain present technical superiority

One has to feel physically sick witnessing how brazenly they can sabotage these efforts and get away with it, ESPECIALLY under a so called nationalist govt that has an official policy called Atmanirbhar Bharat.

India deserves its backwards third world country tag.

Do you believe you are gonna get MRFA tomorrow?? Or before 2028/29??

Btw... ACM clearly mentioned 100% ToT with 100% make in India route several times.

2 years for RFI + 1 year trials + 1 year evaluation and opening bids + 2 years negotiation + 3 years to start delivery = 9 years means 2031 means AMCA and MWF both will be available.
LCA MK1A cost negotiations took almost 3 years, MMRCA talks went from 2012 to mid 2015 without any official agreement. India has never signed anything as complex as MMRCA/MRFA, I doubt it physically can given the complexity and all the stakeholders involved. Heck it took 7 years of talking just to order 56 transport planes (C295)

MRFA is doomed to fail, we all know it. It’s more than a little suspicious that professionals and generals aren’t aware of this reality or they simply don’t care. This guy will be retired in a few years with a far pensions and cushy accommodation, he has next to no skin in this game.

IAF bets on quality, but they don't look at the pockets of finance ministry. MRFA deal will give them qualitative edge over adversary and indigenous jets will provide numbers, both deals has equal importance.
IAF will have to find balance between mrfa and mk2 here, we don't have $ 35 billions to spend for just two fighter jet deals over the decade. Ordering 36 extra Rafale f4 looks viable option and 2+6 squadrons of mk2 will provide them with numbers to create 10 squadrons to replace Mig29, Mirages & Jaguars.

F35 won't happen for various reasons. It's a networked jet with main servers situated in USA. We are not becoming part of that ever unless we became an American vessel.
Plus Americans know we are neck deep in relation with Russia ( from nuke sub to hypersonic missiles to sfdr and now even lots of oil energy security) so they won't trust f35 info falling to Russian either.

More importantly f35 operating costs are way higher for us to afford in any meaningful numbers.

We can only afford 5th gen in numbers if it's mostly indigenous in both build and operations support otherwise we'd bankrupt ourselves.

IAF is convinced rafale can hold off j20 till AMCA arrives in numbers. And hence rafale it is for now.

Rafale has some unique tricks up its sleeve including active stealth and stealth missiles like scalp which make it very very capable.
F-35 is ahead of Rafale in technological sphere as F-35 being 5th generation is 1 generation ahead of Rafale. But Rafale is very good for it's category, if not the best than certainly one of the best. Rafale can fire meteor AAM which is the world's longest range air to air missile and much more.

Also Rafale's spectra EW suite is phenomenal.

Rafale is more than capable of countering J-20 for now and will be able to Effectively counter any Chinese 4th generation fighter.

India doesn't need F-35, we will wait for AMCA. US administration will not approve it's sale because of S-400 too. Let's focus on our own Indigenous AMCA.

If you look at it from the IAFs point of view, I do get it -

1) They were promised 126 jets under the MMRCA competition and they got all of 36 - that's 5 squadrons short

2) While we can all be proud of the Tejas - the platform has taken 2 decades to mature and while returns on subsequent programs are linear - until we actually see an IOC variant of the Mk2, its just HALs word for it, if the Mark2 really does end up all it claims to be the MRFA haze will die - I doubt given the current macro environment we are cutting any major cheque... some where between first flight (next year) and series production (2026) the IAF will be politely asked to chill off...

But for all of this to happen, HAL needs to get its act together and deliver..

I wish we would talk about "generation" and instead focus on the features.

Straight from the horses mouth

Many are looking at the lack of IAF Chief's commitment to LCA Mk2 in isolation. See it in the context of the shadow boxing on the MRCA over past months and it looks like IAF wants to tie its commitment to Mk2 to govt's commitment on MRCA/addl. Rafale sqdns.

The ACM doesn’t commit to any numbers for the LCA Mk2 while committing to 7 squadrons of the AMCA.

Here “first production model” means first flying prototype I believe. Don’t want to read much into it except to say, IAF has no commitment until Mk2 starts flying.
99 ge414 is coming, for mk2, may be for pakistan.
Iaf already consider 5sqn minimum, but max unknown. my guess 9~15 sqn.
Amca 144 jets is similar to 144 fgfa, nothing new, so basically iaf need 4.5 gen jet 100s, currently 36s and mk2 yet to fly, on the other side plaaf/usaf/eu/uk etc going after 6th gen, and the sqn number depends on timeframe. or ada, there is no point in ordering 4.5th gen 2050, so my question is when ada complects mk2 development, 2028 or 2030 or later.
