The AL-31 for example needs to be replaced 2-3 times as often as the M88 or F404 and unlike the Rafale and LCA the MKI doesn't have onboard diagnostics meaning the number of hours of downtime per flight hour are higher AND more preventative and exhaustive maintainence has to occur.
True, but we can overhaul AL-31s locally, at the HAL Koraput plant. For F404s and M88 they must be dispatched to OEMs, which will increase the overhaul time.

So even if they require fewer overhauls, each overhaul will take longer than a local overhaul, unless we have a local GE/M88 servicing centre of course.

This is why we need Kaveri up and running and as soon as possible.

F404s should be overhauled in India, this was part of the offsets and 120++ engines is no small order.

There's a possibility M88s will be overhauled locally also especially if rumours of M88 core for Kaveri are true. If govt commits to more Rafale orders this is a certainty, 36 jets is pitiful and ensures we are not getting the best industrial package.

That said, with spare engines and proper inventory managment I don't really think the time it takes to overhaul an engine matters- fighters aren't going to be sat around for their engines to be returned, that the IAF will burn through 2-3 times more AL-31s than M88s DOES matter given the fact that the AL-31 costs slightly more than the M88.

If we are to have Kaveri with M88 core, I am sure all the M-88's will be replaced with Kaveri in due time, so turnaround time won't be any issue in future. I won't be surprised if next lot of Rafale's comes with Kaveri instead of M88

Not so easy. The capability of Bars radar is classified. And tejas don't match BVR with Su30 as it don't a jammer, it's not easy to lock on a Su30mki without an aesa.

MKI has a HUGE RCS, Mk.1A with AESA will be quite a match in BVR for MKI and the MK.1A's BVRAAM is far superior to the R-77 also.

Link LCA with AWACS and the tiny fighter in "passive mode" will be very hard to detect and will be able to get off a shot before you even know it is there.

As a air defence and interdiction fighter the LCA Mk.1A is just sublime, it will take on anything in PAF and PLAAF arsenel for the next few decades and hold its own no problem.

In many ways LCA is the MiG-21 of the 21st centuary, orginally MiG-21 was a scoot and shoot fighter, it would fly low and fast, come up shoot at the enemy before they knew it was there then would try to outrun a counter attack.

Going to be fascinating seeing the IAF evolve its combat doctrine to incorporate LCA, they figured out how to perfectly utilise Bisons with the beastly MKI, integrating the FAR superior LCA with the MKI is going to a deadly combination for any enemy.

Their is no aesa at current, MKI too has a hybrid radar whose real capabilities are classified. Mki radar noise is below 3dB(quite like aesa), without a self protection jammer, LCA is helpless against mki, mki has huge rcs and source for that..... Wikipedia - >some Indian journo-> unnamed officer. Mki rcs true rcs is not available publicly, as matter of fact in red flag, mki had escaped the radars many time in attack missions, F15, F16 only got their lock on when they fight head on BVR, else in an sky you never know where mki is if you don't have an AESA radar. Not so hard, LCA is still 13 m long, and will be detected by AWACS at more than 300kms, LCA tiny size is advantage only in the dogfight.

Why we want to see the two fight? In wartime the plans call for mk1 to follow MKI like bisons did.
LCA can fly very well in the Mountains because of its handling characteristics and China has good load of Su 30 copies and J-10s placed in Tibet region. Tejas mk.1a with its tactics developed will be an asset to IAF. its imperative that they regulary pitch it against advanced fighters and convert any weaknesses to strength.

Mk-1As and Su-30MKIs can counter J-10s and J-11s effectively.

No it can't be replaced with Kaveri since Kaveri frontal fan area is bigger than m88. Also m88 is modular and doesn't need complete overhaul so would never be taken out of Rafales for life time while Kaveri will have to be overhauled at regular intervals. So will make Rafales maintenance night mare.

For F-404 and F-414 there will be local overhauling facility.

Whereas for Snecma M-88 they don't need complete overhaul they are modular and have 21 modules which are inter replaceable and engines don't need to be pulled out of Rafales only the module which needs to be replaced is pulled out and changed. And yes no bench testing before flight after replacing the module making it virtually maintenance free.

Also Snecma M-88 has a life of 8000 Hours pretty much same as the life time of Rafale airframe. So no need for replacement engines.

Also Snecma M-88 have 2 cooling channels against even EJ 200 single channel which means very low IR signature making it difficult to detect by IRST. Snecma M-88 are actually 5th gen Fighter engines.

4. Demonstration of Rafael ADS Derby BVR air-to-air missile.
5. Demonstration of Rafael ADS Python-5 IIR close combat missile (Related post here).
6. Completion of integration & demonstration of KBP Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 23mm cannon.
7. New design drop tanks for supersonic flight.
8. New radome to improve radar and electromagnetic performance.
9. Validate more efficient cooling system for aircraft braking assembly.
10. Additional weapons testing, including PGMs.

Current status

1. Expanded as part of IOC-I
2. Expanded as part of IOC-II
3. Correct and ongoing
4. Complete
5. Not going to happen
6. Correct and ongoing: it is not a probably with the gun or the aircraft.
7. Not part of FOC
8. Done. They are optimizing the flight computer.
9. I know that this used to be a problem. I knew it as solved. I havnt heard anything ongoing on this. I am not sure on this one.
10. All PGMs for FOC have been tested. More will keep happening.

, LCA is already cleared for R73
(CCM) and Derby (BVR). Talks are on to integrate Astra as well. An alternate CCM to R73 will have to be identified between IAF and ADA. IAF and ADA wanted Python 5, but the aerodynamics do not jive together. Nobody changes a plane for a missile, and the Israelis have dragged their foot on modifying the missile.

Supersonic flights with the IFR will soon be conducted. It can be assumed that the will follow it up with dry contact and finally wet contact.

A decision has to be taken on the gun. It is not the gun, or the aircraft, but
something else. Can't talk. FOC is not
going to depend on this.

Then what is it? If it is not gun or aircraft? what is the delay caused by?
