i think they are building new airbase
I think the only airbase being planned is Kayathar in Tirunelvei district(far south). The other airbase being built is in Tanjore. I do not think any airbase is being planned in Dindigul.

@Karthic
Maybe the report meant Dundigul airbase near Hyderabad. This report is full of mistakes. Maybe the reporter mistook Dundigul for Dindigul.

While the sixth Limited Series Production (LSP-6) aircraft, designed with special features, continues to strive to attain a high angle of attack, indicating the aircraft's agility, LCA Prototype Vehicle-1 (PV1) is taking on some electronic warfare (EW) features.
Does these means, LSP 6 is already flying? And we are going to see some electronic attack modes too here

We are adding 20 + 40 = 60 or 20 + 20 = 40 ?

I think, Only 40 are planned beside naval variant. Isn't it ? or 60 ?
Its really confusing, some say the order is only 20 for mk1 and another 20 for mk2.

But surely not 60, its should be 40 or 20 mk1.

^^ I guess that usual DDM part.

---------

To people who say LCA can't replace Jaguar because it is a delta. Any guess what geometrical shape Jaguar wings have? And what makes a good low level attack aircraft?

First squadron of LCAs to be stationed at Sulur airbase

The first squadron of India's Light Combat Aircraft Tejas would be located at Sulur airbase near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, a senior DRDO official said.

Twenty LCAs would be stationed at Sulur in the first phase by early 2012 and as many aircraft would be added to the squadron subsequently, DRDO Chief Controller (R&D) W Selvamurthy said, adding, requisite facilities including hanger and runway were being put in place.

Similarly another fleet of 40 LCAs, designed by DRDO and manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, would be stationed at an airbase near Dindigul in Tamil Nadu by the second half of next year, he told reporters.......................................

20 LCA's in Sulur by early 2012 and another 40 near Dindigul ie a total of 60 A/C's .
How 60 a/c's will be inducted in a such a short span of time of 9-10 months?

induction of 60 aircrafts will commence from 2011 by formally inducting 2 tejas this years( expected/ source earlier newspaper reports and drdo releases) and the whole induction process wil be completed by 2014. now seeing this news i think what drdo intended to say is that the delivery of tejas will begin from 2012 and not that the delivery will be completed by 2012.

a query: IAF has only ordered 20+20 aircrafts and till now they havent asked CCS and MOD for other 20 aircrafts, moreover in parliamentary briefing antony himself has said that only 40 tejas will be procured till newer tejas emerges out, 40 that to cope up with the drastic fleet fall.
if anyone got idea of the unnoticed development regarding tejas orders then please do post

Breaking on Tarmak007: LCA NP-1 gears up for maiden flight; first EGR completed successfully

NP-1 during its first EGR at Old Bangalore airport on September 26.

The naval prototype (NP-1) of the light combat aircraft (LCA) did the first engine ground run (EGR) successfully. According to sources, the first EGR was conducted on September 26 at about 6.30 pm. Tests like engine integration, activation of the various systems like flight control, hydraulics, fuel, electrical and avionics were done successfully. "The aircraft will now go through a phase of refinements followed by a series of final integration checks and taxi trials, before its first flight shortly," sources said.

The NP-I had its roll-out on July 6, 2010 and Team ADA promised Antony that the first flight would take place before December 31, 2010. Hope to hear the good news soon.

PS: Do visit Tarmak007 for more.

It's raining bombs in Pokhran! Tejas drops LGBs : Tarmak007

It's official. It's raining bombs in Pokhran! Three test platforms from the Tejas flight-line -- LSP-2, LSP-5 and PV-3 -- is scripting a new chapter in India's light combat aircraft program. As reported by Tarmak007 earlier, the crucial weapon trails of Tejas are currently underway at the Chandan and Pokhran ranges of Rajasthan. Sources confirm that 10-12 sorties have been completed so far. Pick of these fire-works were the dropping of laser-guided bombs (LGBs), which according to sources was demonstrated by Tejas as per the plan.
"The practice bombing sorties gave good results. We are here till the month-end. Now, we have lined-up crucial drop-tank jettison tests. This included the trials of empty, partially-full and full drop-tank tests. It is a time-consuming exercise. Yesterday we had 2 sorties of empty jettison and practice bombing sessions. We dropped 1000 pounds, 400 pounds and even 25 pounds bombs. LGBs were also released," a senior official, part of the 200-strong contingent said.
Sources claim that the initial results of these weapon trials were "'really encouraging'' and the team will soon start analyzing the inputs. "Once we get the complete data, then we will be able to map all the profiles of these trials. Remember that these are extremely critical ones as we are currently undertaking the missions at various modes, different altitudes and at differing Mach numbers,"the official said.
Team Tejas will have to complete their missions at the allotted slots and hence the role of time-keepers and planners become critical. "The range has heavy traffic owing to other trials by various agencies. It is a huge challenge to perform these missions at clock-like precision," the official said.
Sources confirm that one mobile telemetry has been already positioned at Jaisalmer, while another is at the Ozar Air Base in Nasik. Back-up equipment, additional ground crew and support platforms (LSP-3, LSP-4) are also put on a stand-by.

I believe HAL and DRDO should start couple of new factories and production line with private sector companies to meet its workload, as we all know HAL have loads of work on its hand. at present SU30MKI, Tejas MK1, Druv, LCH, and upgrading program of existing aircraft. Plus in future they have to handle FGFA, Super 30mki, Tejas mk2, n-Tejas, AMCA and upgrade of whatever in our inventory.

By starting new production line and factories we can build our airforce more quickly and quality will be improved.

India's Carrier Fighter Makes 1st Engine Ground Run, 1st Flight Soon

The carrier variant of India's Tejas fighter made its first Engine Ground Run (EGR) on the September 26 at 1830HRS. It was the programme's first prototype (NP1) that made the run. The engine ground run successfully checked out aircraft to engine integration and activation of systems including flight control, hydraulics, fuel, electrical and avionics.

According to a DRDO statement issued today, "The aircraft will now go through a phase of refinements based on feedback identified during the course of the build up and also observed during the EGR, followed by a series of final integration checks and taxi trials before its maiden flight shortly."

this tejas has soooo many flaws. my talk with IAF officer yesterday said its ok to have 20 squadron but not this useless crap in time of war. send 10 tejas and no guarantee that atleast one will return. pitch them against modern fighters of PAF and PLAAF, they wont make it. planes like f-16 and sukhois add to the capability of pilot but this tejas retards the capability. they are though looking forward for tejas mk2, hoping that it is much better than mk1. but if it wont then they will have marut approach for tejas. hire and retire-fast fast.
