Final trial of LCA - Tejas .

पोकरण में शुरू हुआ लड़ाकू विमान तेजस का फाइनल ट्रायल

Source: Bhaskar News | Last Updated 01:25(18/09/11)

I'm astounded that a Hindi newspaper such as this has used Hinglish so liberally in print. 30% of the words in the article above are English words transliterated into Hindi. Some other information is just blatantly wrong:

रूस निर्मित मिग श्रंखला के विमानों के बढ़ते हादसों को देखते हुए एक दशक पूर्व स्वदेशी लड़ाकू विमान बनाने की शुरुआत की गई थी।
I don't think this "news" can be trusted.

god save tejas from bureaucracy....
moreover what a country will achieve after placing 120 home made aircrafts in between majority foreign planes... dont know what they wanna show...tejas is no more required, intercept planes are gone days stuff.
its multi role version is nowhere to be seen.
take a scene of 2017-18.... tejas multirole introduced... few days later PAK FA enters service. su-30 super-30 version also introduced and mirage 2000 upgrades also entering service.
iaf turns into new gen air force which has many fifth gen platform... now a a dilemma.
we can save money and buy many new pak fa... moreover a single pak fa is more capable then 2-3 tejas... and also it is on assembly line and tejas ka toh kuch pata nahi...
what to do
and making things obviously determinate... delay tejas by ordering few more and buying more FAs
even in 2020, after commissioning tejas in planned 120 number... it wil represent a 14% iaf(270 su+51 mirage+62 mig-29+120 jags+50-60 pak fa+120 tejas)... with a third of tejas in south india(40 out of 120)..
please dont reply to this or these kinds of suggestions as above ........

India dosent have any ideas to repeat what isreal did to their lavi plane.............and tejas can be converted to unmanned aircraft later if there is a need.Even if lca capability is not needed for the iaf there are large number of mig21 has to be replaced by them.

Dont ask why we need tejas.............answers will be ....... bad.

my post was the result of my intense discussion with IAF accounts and acquisition officer and all my thoughts above are not mine but of that iaf guy. they are inducting them just they are maintaing mig-21 fleet today. mig-21 have no relevance today. and the present tejas too dont have any added advantage. im personally a big fan of tejas but when i interact with iaf guys i understand their position and feel bad for nation and the effort we had poured to develop tejas.

Tejas set to bomb Pokhran & Chandan Ranges

Much ahead of India's Festival of Lights -- Diwali -- India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas is all set to do carpet bombing in Rajasthan! A high-profile team of engineers, test pilots, scientists and ground crew from ADA, HAL, NFTC and IAF have already touched down at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan for the light and sound show. As this blog goes live, the Tejas pilots have already done recce flights ahead of their crucial weapon trials -- ringing in some excitement to the Initial Operational Clearance (IOC) phase.
Sources confirm to Tarmak007 that PV3, LSP-1, LSP-2, Slp-3 and LSP-5 (five platforms from the flight line) have already reached Jaisalmer after a brief stopover at Ozhar Air Force base in Nasik for refueling. "The crucial weapons trials are all set to begin now. We are planning to drop 1000 pounds and 400 pounds bombs at Chandan and Pokhran Ranges," say sources.
This is for the first time that Tejas would be undertaking precision bombing at a range closer to Indian border. "These are very sensitive trials. We are looking to secure accurate positions and target parameters. We will move on to Leh and then to Goa from here, later this year. There has been delays post-IOC declaration (January 10, 2011) and we hope to set the record straight from here," sources said.
Over 200 people are part of this weapon trial at Jaisalmer. Tejas had earlier undertaken weapon trials in Goa and Chitradurga.

Key Tejas weapon trials begin in Jaisalmer

A crucial round of armament trials of the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas has just begun in Jaisalmer. Close on its heels, a second round of trials will take place in Goa next month.

Four Tejas aircraft — the Prototype Vehicle-3 (PV3) besides Limited-Series-Production (LSP) aircraft 2, 4 and 5 — have reached Jaisalmer to conduct a series of target-firing of laser-guided bombs. While three aircraft will fire munitions, one will be on standby. "The LCA will, for the first time, precision-fire 1,000 kg bombs at designated stationary ground targets using its laser designator pod for target acquisition. In all, 18 such bombs would be fired by these aircraft as part of the trials, aiming to hit targets in a one metre radius. It is, therefore, a significant trial for the aircraft," a top source told The Hindu.

The Jaisalmer phase of the trial, expected to be over by the end of this month, will also have LCA pilots practising release of 25-pound dummy bombs. The weapon trials are conducted by test pilots of the National Flight Test Centre (NFTC), Bangalore.

During the second phase of the weapon trials, slated to begin by mid-October at the naval airbase INS Hansa in Goa, Vympel R-73 air-to-air close combat missile will be test-fired from a Tejas aircraft. Coming up for the LCA after the weapon trials will be a swift hot-and-cold weather trial in which an aircraft taking off from Jaisalmer will fly straight to Leh, where it will have a series of flight trials. "It is likely to take place by November-end or in the first week of December," the source said.

While the sixth Limited Series Production (LSP-6) aircraft, designed with special features, continues to strive to attain a high angle of attack, indicating the aircraft's agility, LCA Prototype Vehicle-1 (PV1) is taking on some electronic warfare (EW) features.

"At the moment, there is a lot of wiring going into the aircraft. Once ready, it will be flown to the Air Force Station in Gwalior, where its electronic warfare mettle would be tested," said the source.

IAF is going to use the lsp and pv of tejas mk 1 for electronic warfare and recon missions. pv-1 is undergoing overhaul and modification to make it EW enabled.
moreover when will tejas gets HF designation and will these early tejas be called HE instead of HF just like F/A becomes E/A in west

First squadron of LCA to be stationed in Sulur base: DRDO

First squadron of LCA to be stationed in Sulur base: DRDO

Tiruchirapalli (TN), Sept 21, (PTI) The first squadron of Light Combat Aircraft Tejas would be located at Sulur Airbase near Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, a Senior DRDO official said. Twenty LCAs would be stationed at Sulur in the first phase by early next year and as many aircraft would be added to the squadron subsequently and requisite facilities including hanger and runway were being put in place, DRDO Chief Controller (R&D) Dr W Selvamurthy said here yesterday.

Similarly another fleet of 40 LCAs, designed by DRDO and manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, would be stationed at an airbase near Dindigul in Tamil Nadu by the second half of next year, he told reporters.

The Defence ministry had already attested initial operation clearance last year and LCA's Air and Naval variants had already been rolled out as mass production by HAL.

He said DRDO was also planned to develop unmanned aerial vehicle in four versions and prototype models had already been made.

The fifth version of Agni cruise missile with a 5,000 kms range was likely to be demonstrated by January next.

Selvamurthy, who is also in-charge of international cooperation wing of DRDO, said several pacts were envisaged with countries like USA, UK, France, Israel and Belarus to develop Joint Ventures for production of ultra modern weapons and equipment for Defence purposes.

He said an Indo-US joint technology group has been set up to develop foliage penetration radars and ground penetration radars which would help in anti-terrorist and anti-insurgency operations. A two-year time frame had been set to design and develop the related products. Earlier addressing the students of National Institute of Technology here, he said

DRDO would recruit a minimum of 5,000 people, including 3,000 scientists, in the next six months. DRDO with over 50 laboratories across the country has a headcount of 30,000 including about 8,000 scientists. He said orders worth Rs 20,000 crores have been received for AKASH cruise missiles from different defence establishments in the world.

HINDU says 1000 KG TARMAK007 says 1000 pounds wonder who to trust? Keeping aside, if at all 1000 Kg is the weapon of choice then it means after Jaisalmer Tejas will be cleared for maximum load per pylon. Since they are using LDP there is also a best chance that they might attempt night bombings as well.

We are adding 20 + 40 = 60 or 20 + 20 = 40 ?

I think, Only 40 are planned beside naval variant. Isn't it ? or 60 ?

LCA can't replace Jaguar due to it's delta design and then say in the next part LCA mark 2 perhaps will!!! is LCA mark 2 not a delta platform??
Thats not totally true. Infact, had the US government not interfered and stop the sale, today we may have been flying delta winged Viggens instead of Jaguars. Moreover, the French have found a replacement for their F1s and Jaguars in the delta winged Rafale, so too the Germans, Italians and the British for their Tornados in the delta winged Eurofighter. Those earlier limitations may just be due to a lack of canards in the original deltas. Lets see what the LCA Mark 2 looks like.

I think next year is too early, the first squadron would probably be based in Bangalore for a couple of more years before being moved to Sulur.
