Sri Lanka to resume negotiations on stalled trade agreement with India
Sri Lanka will soon resume talks with India on the stalled Economic and Technological Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), authorities said, as Colombo looks to trade pacts and foreign direct investments to rebuild its crisis-hit economywww.adaderana.lk
They have no choice now as their economy is under massive contraction.what say boys, good for bad for SL?

How tho ?India will have some control on their economy with this agreement.
Dependency..How tho ?
India is one of the Two top sources of imports for Sri Lanka. How tho ?
i don't think GoI is interested in control, rather stability in the region. Indian diplomacy doesn't have the tools to control other nations anyways. They have no choice now as their economy is under massive contraction.

If GoI was smart enough than they would have leveraged it in terms of military projection and national security in the IOR with respect to China, but alas!i don't think GoI is interested in control, rather stability in the region. Indian diplomacy doesn't have the tools to control other nations anyways.
there is hardly any of value that SL can offer us other than raw material for tyres.
Our closest parter is Myanmar but we couldn't harness their presences dur to our fucked up ideology and short sightedness.Regional trade and connectivity is important for a big nation . Was surprised to see the economic linkage between China and Taiwan some times back . Nothing much can be done with respect to SAARC . Its a dead project because there is a country which believes in Ghazwa e hind , kashmir jugular vain , Afghanistan strategic depth and shit ..
We have BIMSTEC . Bangladesh , myanmar , srilanka , thhailand , india , nepal , bhutan . This should be our instrument for regional economic connectivity . May be some indian ocean countries like maldives , seychelles and other SE countries connected to thailand can be seen as future partners .
Too much pressure from US State Dept. Our closest parter is Myanmar but we couldn't harness their presences dur to our fucked up ideology and short sightedness.
Stability in Myanmar is directly linked to the Stability of NE, yet we show no inclination or resolve.
As a country Myanmar shares our value, they could be part of whatever we envision.
All we want is the Sri Lanka not to host any Chinese or Pakistani subs or naval ships or be used as a staging ground for any foreign power in any conflict. That's it. But Sri Lankans are too dumb to realize that.i don't think GoI is interested in control, rather stability in the region. Indian diplomacy doesn't have the tools to control other nations anyways.
there is hardly any of value that SL can offer us other than raw material for tyres, that too is diminishing since our own tyre companies are planting their own rubber tree estates.
ultimately their population is just 2 crores, nothing major in financial terms.
it's entirely upto SL on how they want to proceed.
No .. that project failed because it has to go through bangladesh and we were stuck haggling with them . Then we tried making pipeline go via the Siliguri corridor but that timeline was unacceptable to the Burmese.Too much pressure from US State Dept.
India should always keep it doors open for Myanmar, whether it is Military Junta or Civilian govt running the country.
Under pressure from US only we are not engaging with Myanmar after the military takeover of the country. So advantage is China.
I wonder if this same mindset exists wrt pakistan.i don't think GoI is interested in control, rather stability in the region. Indian diplomacy doesn't have the tools to control other nations anyways.

We should make thread about Use of adoption INR internationally, Very soon India will be free from compulsion to use dollar for 70% of its trade.International trade in INR and not in Yuan for Sri Lanka
