Indian Ak-203 is watered down version of Russian Ak-203.
Russian Ak-203 is watered down version of Ak-15.
Ak-15 is upgraded version of Ak-103M.
Ak-103M is also known as Ak-203.
Anyways, Ak-103M is modernized variant of Ak-103.
Ak-103 is midlife update of AKM.
AKM is basic modernization of Ak-47.

So now you tell me, what is our Ak-203?

Is our ak203 watered down version of original? If yes, then what features are removed
The Indian Ak203 has a side folding rigid buttstock and the extended lip on the safety lever removed. Earlier decisions opted for the Ak103 handguard instead, but this has been changed to the new one. That's pretty much all the difference.

Indo-Russian joint venture begins manufacturing AK-203 assault rifles in U.P.
The joint venture between India and Russia, Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL), has started producing AK-203 Kalashnikov assault rifles at Korwa in Uttar Pradesh, according to Alexander Mikheev, Director General of Rosoboronexport of Russia. Last week, Army Chief Gen. Manoj Pande said that the first batch of 5,000 rifles would be delivered to the Army by March.

“Korwa Ordnance Factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, has produced the first batch of 7.62 mm Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles. The beginning of deliveries to the Indian Army is expected soon,” Mr. Mikheev said in a statement issued by Rosoboronexport on Tuesday.

At the same time, the factory’s capacity makes it possible to fully equip the personnel of other law enforcement agencies in India with AK-203 assault rifles, which, due to their high adaptability, are suitable for various operators, he stated, adding that in addition, the joint venture will be able to export to third countries.

Gen. Pande said that the contract for over six lakh AK-203 rifles would be executed by the joint venture over a period of 128 months or close to 10 years. “Out of this, 70,000 is to come up in a matter of 32 months wherein the indigenous content is required to be in the range of 5% to 70%. Subsequently, we will have completely indigenous AK-203,” he stated.

With the launch of series production of Kalashnikov AK-203 assault rifles, high-quality, convenient and modern small arms will begin to enter service with India’s defence and law enforcement agencies, said Sergey Chemezov, General Director of Rostec. “The model combines excellent ergonomics, adaptability to different shooters and high performance characteristics, it is one of the best assault rifles in the world,” he added.

100% localisation
The joint venture plans to ensure 100% localisation of the production of AK-203 rifles in India and in future may also increase output and upgrade its production facilities to manufacture advanced rifles based on the Kalashnikov assault rifle platform, the statement added.

The IRRPL was set up in 2019 jointly between with erstwhile OFB [now Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWEIL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL)] of India and Rosoboronexport and Kalashnikov of Russia. As reported by The Hindu earlier, the full-scale production of the rifles is expected to be reached within 2-3 years.

Carbine, possible, AK-104//AK-204 already exists and so,

LMG, well strengthen receiver and so, put heavier longer barrel plus bipod or just make-do with picatiny mounted bipods etc, then possible, basically fork it out as RPK

DMR ? the only 7.62x39mm calibre DMR in practical use is Iraqui Tabuk which is just elongated AK at its base with longer barrel etc and they too use it as urban precision rifle, else it's totally impractical to use a high-drop round like 7.62x39mm as DMR
7.62 NATO based AK as DMR is possible again

HOWEVER we already have homemade TriCA = Trichy Carbine in 7.62x39mm, and making an LMG out of Trichy is also possible, and that Ishapore Assault Rifle in 7.62 NATO so making DMR out of it is also possible, then why bother with ruusi AK based <all these> things

saar again it's going around in circles thing, even in 5.56 NATO we have homegrown solutions for those roles, then what is so unique about AK-200 series to go through that way
Carbine me toh INSAS carbine, that new ARDE Carbine and what not,
LMG - INSAS LMG already exist and frankly it enjoys somewhat better reputation than INSAS 1B series rifles in terms of reliability et al, even being used as makeshift DMR with its 4x scope and so
calibre is kind of thing that we can easily switch around by upscaling-downscaling rifles
so fundamently why AK-200 series, that is my question, because remember we are into JV with ruskies in this, they won't easily just let us meddle in "their" tech - aisa hota toh Tank EX//Karna MBT ka project thodi na thuss hota when we modified their chassies and used it with our Arjun's turret and so; heck they even meddled in our Abhay IFV program and pitched BMP-3 instead and now we have no immediate futuristic replacement of dem BMP-2s; so i believe it's a real risky game with them to even think about going ;derivatives; way with AK-200 series under current JV

First and foremost; AK platform has long been turned obsolete.
Long stroke gas piston, pinned barrel, two lug bolt, reciprocating charging handle, dust cover...

Now coming to specific points.

In past few years there has been a disruptive innovation in the field of machine guns, especially light ones. Now you can get a belt fed light machine gun with quick change barrel approximately in the same weight category of a magazine fed "LMG".
KAC's LAMG, FN's Evolys or SIG's MG are what's going to be the future...not some Darra modified AK with 60 round magazine.

As for DMR, AKs are notorious for being inaccurate. Even custom made AK based DMRs like Tabuks are way less accurate than even the older DMRs like Dragunov.

I had to ask this thing . So what would be a more comfortable option for mounting an optic on Dust Cover rails and zeroing in

-A holographic at the centre of the rails , closer to the shooters eye

Or
-An optic closer to the traditional iron sight at the end of upper receiver .

Actually both.
Both are infinite eye relief sight, so it won't matter how far or how close you mount them.
Also with the addition of new dust cover retention mechanism the extreme ends of dust cover are now the most stable points as it's where it actually connects with the receiver.

Ultimately it's up to you that what kind of engagement you want to make.
If you want to make close quarter engagement where the distance is less and all priority is on reaction time; then the father the sight is the better it is.
And if you want to engage at medium ranges then the closer it is to your eye the more precise it'll get.
