Seems that insas flashhider was inspired by that of Brazilian LAR
ah nope,
i mean in looooong way it's true but still not directly applicable,
statement
INSAS flash hider is derived from FN CAL // FN FNC's flash hider of rifle grenade era times...and in looong way it was based on Metric pattern FAL's flash hider of certain models adopted for using rifle grenades
description
FN FAL's flash hider, gas ring at end
FN CAL's long pattern flash hider, notice gas ring for rifle grenades
FN FNC's long pattern flash hider, likewise,
^all of these flash hiders are of same length (albeit in 5.56 NATO ones FN CAL and FN FNC's have slightly thinner profile in centre as shown) and can accept FAL's NATO standard hollow-tube pattern grenades that goes on it, can also accept FAL's NATO standard hollow-handle bayonets etc...
later when Rifle Grenades became kinda obsolete things as underbarrel grenade launchers started emerging they simply shortened these flash hiders and removed gas rings from them, as apparent in certain later pattern FALs and FNCs (FN CAL never got that change as it was a failure in terms of sales despite influencing lots of stuffs and FNC took its place afterwards)
DS Arms made short pattern flash hider for FAL, notice no gas ring here and shortened length containing only flash hider part
FN FNC's flash hiders, long vs short
short one on FNC
^So, yeah, it came down this way from FAL to CAL and FNC,
INSAS also followed similar path,
how it happened on INSAS though ? in next part
