i was going through some old stuff and found something interesting.
Incident on 1999/04/07:
Taking advantage of poor visibility, the Pak soldiers disguised as militants tried to sneak in through gaps in an old mine field along the LC, in Poonch Sector, at about 2000 hours on April 7, 1999.
The JCOs and NCOs wearing civil dress were leading the group of militants attempting to infiltrate across the LC. Our vigilant troops, however, noticed the movement and opened fire killing both the soldiers on the spot.
Subsequent search of the area lead to the recovery of two dead bodies, one Pakistan ordnance factory made G3 Rifle with 20 rounds, and lot of documents from the site.
The militants who were following the soldiers at a distance, managed to flee safely into Pak Occupied Kashmir (POK). From the documents captured, the individuals were identified as Naib Subedar Riaz Ahmed and Naik Mohd Shafiq residents of Abbotabad and Rawalpindi, Pakistan respectively. They belonged to the 8th BALUCH Battalion deployed in the area, opposite on Pak side of the LC.
Till recently Pak troops along the LC, only provided covering fire to militants infiltrating into J&K. However, of late, Indian Army troops deployed along the LC had been getting various reports to indicate the likelihood of Pakistan Army troops being actively involved in assisting infiltration of militants into the Poonch Sector, owing to increasing casualties being suffered by militants and extra vigilance being maintained by Indian Army.
Such attempts by Pak regular troops is clearly out of desperation due to the difficulties being faced by the militants while infiltrating into the Rajauri - Poonch sector. It may also be recalled that on two previous occasions in Aug 98 last year, some Pak troops attempting to sneak in through the Naoshera and Poonch Sectors along with the militants had also met with the same fate, leading to the killing of three Pak soldiers and the recovery of one Pak MP-5A rifle.
On humanitarian grounds and to maintain goodwill and the spirit of Lahore declaration, Indian troops unilaterally offered to hand over dead bodies of the two Pak soldiers killed on 7 April 99 to the Pak Army. On receiving confirmation from Pakistan, a special flag meeting was held on 10 April 99 and the two dead bodies of Pak soldiers were handed over to Pakistan with full military honours and decorum. Some of the items recovered from these Pak soldiers include a list of Do's And Don'ts, Pak currency notes, Company Havildar Major (Company Sergeant Major) Orders, and a pocket Quran.
Its also confirmed in official PA records:
