Won't allow any changes in Jammu and Kashmir's demography: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday said the party would not allow any changes in the demography of Jammu and Kashmir and any attempt to dilute the “unique identity” of the state would be resisted. “The NC will not allow any changes in the demography of the state and any attempt to dilute Jammu and Kashmir’s unique identity will be resisted,” Abdullah said addressing party functionaries and workers at Saloora in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

I think they are planning for delimitation and then conduct elections in j&k so that valley don't dominate the formation of govt in the state. Don't think anything else is going to happen .

But when you see the reactions of mehbooba and Farooq it clearly shows that even they are not confident that if govt goes ahead with delimitation or scrapping Art 35A they will be able to resist strongly . shows some kind of nervousness inside them .

Agreed. Delimitation is most likely to happen. But not sure they'll be able to completely overwhelm the seat numbers of Kashmir valley.

The Muftis and the Abdullahs may not have the power by themselves to do any mischief, but just to remain 'relevant' among the misguided Kashmiris they might stoke the passions further to create a bigger uproar!

The area where Indian governments have always lagged behind is in creating the counter-narrative....especially when the counter-narrative would involve merely letting the Kashmiri people know the naked truth!!! Even if the radicalized masses brush aside all the altruism of the larger Indian population, that information should be used to combat at least the whackjobs from the rest of India who feel that India is committing some kind of oppression in the state!!!

Indian government needs to put out all the revenue numbers out in public....the amount of tax paid by Kashmiris and the amount of 'aid' & subsidies they've received from the rest of India. It's no good if only the ultra curious (like yours truly) goes around to dig the financial statements....everyone should know!!

RPF asks staff to prepare for impending unrest in Kashmir, Railways says directions not authorised
The RPF had earlier issued a set of directions for its staff in case of an "emergency situation in the Valley for an extended period of time".

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) held a security meeting in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) on Saturday after the security agencies sent an input regarding the prediction of deteriorating situation in the Kashmir Valley.

After the meeting, the RPF issued a set of directions for its staff in case of an "emergency situation in the Valley for an extended period of time". A copy of the directions is with India Today TV. The precautionary security measures include purchase and storage of at least four-month dry ration and water to "meet any crisis situation".

The Railways has, however, said that the directions are "without any basis" and "not authorised".

In an official statement, the railways said, "The Senior Divisional Security Commissioner had proceeded on one year study leave on July 26, 2019. The next in line had issued this letter based on his own perception which has no basis and is not authorised to issue any such letter."

"It is also clarified the letter does not have any approval from the authorising authority. IG (NR) RPF is being sent to Kashmir to assess the situation and take corrective action," the official statement read.

The letter, which was issued earlier by the RPF, stated that the meeting was held "as per the inputs received from different security agencies and SSP/GRP/SINA regarding forecast of a deteriorating situation in Kashmir Valley and the issue of law and order for a long period."

The steps discussed in the meeting also include "no negotiation with the mob". It said, "There should be no negotiation with mob and mob should not be allowed to come near railway installations if it happens as insurgents may be in the mob."

It's a bullshit argument that 10000 paramilitary is sent for stopping terror attacks. Either we are backpedaling from our objective or want to remain particular task secret.

Our brave CRPF men sacrifice deserves extracting more revenge from bigots in the valley. Will be happy to see delimitation and removal of 35A and rub it deep into these pigs that what their action set into motion.

This is a classic case of 'tail wagging the dog'!!!

Isn't RPF the competent agency (even if it's under the aegis of Indian Railways) to assess security and devise compensatory measures.....the assessment and suggestion that Indian Railways should accede to?
Why would Indian Railways come out and say that RFP's cautionary measures are without 'basis & authorization'??

If situation does deteriorate and RPF is found wanting in logistics then the Railways babus are just going to turn around and say that RPF didn't prepare itself for the eventuality!

If the intention is not to send 'panic waves' that something ominous could happen, the Railways authorities could have just said that the measures are 'routine & precautionary'. I totally see some bureaucratic turf war going on in babudom!! It's pathetic!

The extra 10,000 security force sent to Kashmir valley might be in anticipation of some 'big measure' announcement in coming days.... it could be

- delimitation
- article 35A scrapping
- article 370 scrapping
- or something else.....

It's a election thing. This "delimitation" being the highest chance and if it's strategic then nobody will know.

Pakistan want a destabilized Kashmir and Afg it serves them better and this time when China giving them support, they will do whatever possible to disturb Kashmir in India.

I don't know when the elections in Kashmir going to happen, but looks like they are soon to happen in October or Nov so they want to fix the state and prepare it for elections, Nothing else.

calm down guys no such sort of 35A or 370 would happen unless until there is a national consensus and resolution passed.
