Midget submarines are best for coastal defense network ..

For high seas, No less than 500-1000tons are needed ..

I feel L&T has a good chance to win the P75I lottery, they have spare capacity lying idle and can possibly modify the arihant hull design into a large ssk easily. L&T should be able to offer on time delivery as well.
Scorpenes with AIP as they already have it tooling, vendors etc for it

53000 crores sanctioned, P75I has finally arrived.
Big news is that the subs will be made here and that the navy will take the final call on what they want.
Defence allowed to flex shopping muscle

Again only Foreign technology... ::mad:

1. There's a statement in that article "Indian companies have so far not demonstrated the capability to develop a submarine in its entirety."

Umm, any updates on the Arihant Class?

2. BMP-2s? Now in 2014? TATA Kestrel Prototype is ready, isnt it?

3. SPIKE ATGMs. Whats the Status of the NAG ATGM. Have they invested in a Portable Manpad version?

4. Again Dornier? NAL SARAS is completely scrapped I see.

All Foreign Deals Cleared, Indian equipements sacked up. Some huge kickbacks on their Way.!

Pipavav has a tieup with dcns, the parent company of the scorpene, we might see them becoming launch customers for the smx25.

It is better to have another expense of (new) tooling for P75I.

Even after spending for it, other subs are way cheaper than Scorpene class.

Save money for (new) tooling is not that good idea here.

naval dnd should start designing next generation of conventional submarines as well as ssn which can be inducted after the completion of p-75i submarine induction which will take about a decade.

Arihant Hull is indigenous design, but very few of what's inside is indigenous

2. BMP-2s? Now in 2014? TATA Kestrel Prototype is ready, isnt it?
300+ BMP-2s, which would be made completely in India under license, to make up for the older ones retiring.

FICV will happen in 3000+ in numbers. Kestrel is wheeled, which is one of the FICV contenders. BMP-2 is tracked.

3. SPIKE ATGMs. Whats the Status of the NAG ATGM. Have they invested in a Portable Manpad version?
MP-NAG is still 5-6yrs away. Should we be unarmed in ATGMs till then? SPIKE is for both MP and LSV mounted use.

4. Again Dornier? NAL SARAS is completely scrapped I see.
Are you aware that HAL bought the Dornier line and produces it here from raw materials? Even Saras prototype (TD) is not finalized till date, let alone IOC & FOC. Still 6-8yrs away. Also, Saras and Dornier are of different weight class and category.

Arihant insides are also much Indian than outside, It is quite strange that we are not going for SSK based on same design ..

Not that bad idea, they can scale it down and make SSK out of it.

A lot, yes. But not all. After this P-75i, the next lot would be all.

German Type 216.

Type 216 submarine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Type 216 is a submarine design concept announced by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft based on the Type 212/214. It is a larger design targeted to meet the needs of the Australian Collins-class submarine replacement project, also known as Sea 1000, and the needs of other countries possibly including India and Canada. The design is double hulled with two decks, includes a fuel cell, Permasyn motor, and lithium-ion batteries.

We are spending over more than a billion dollars per SSK !, Not Scorpenes, and Amurs - none of those cost this much..

Possibly same displacement of Soryus or Type-216 @bengalraider ..

Any idea how much India paid for each Scorpene class.

I mean total cost of acquisition for each sub will be...........?

I have a feeling, it is not less.

We are as much to blame for the scorpene fiasco as the french. When putting down initials on the contract documents, we missed critical details and to add insult to injury the shoddy project management at MDL did the rest.
The french were simply more shrewd than us when drawing the papers up.
