Not that bad if we consider 600 MICAs we will get with this upgrade. But seven years for upgrading 50 mirages is disappointing.

If the life span of the aircraft increase by 20 years then the upgrade wont be a waste of money..just think if we dont upgrade these planes with in a short span of time these will become useless and acquiring new ones are verymuch time consuming..If these upgraded ones can defend the chinese strike planes and F16s then there s nothing wrong in the upgrade...If mayavati can spend 200 crore in building elephant statues what is wrong in spending some money in our defence upgradation...
it is better to have something than nothing...

Cha ching! With the commanality and partnerships with Rafale, not to mention half a billion worth of common BVRAAMs, Rafale is ever stronger in the MMRCA.

So far i have never gotten mad for anything the MoD or defense industry blundered but for the first time i feel angry!! Who was bought or payed off to sanction this deal? Sell the nation will you. :mad2::mad2:

2.4 billion for 30 year old aircraft and this does not include re-engine and it take 7years for refit! WTFFFF?

You spend 2 billion and 25years to learn and develop how to make a fighter aircraft and you waste all that expertise and keep buying more aircraft instead of designing another MRCA in India and want to waste more money and time with an un-justifiable 5gen aircraft program called AMCA, when we have just mastered 4th gen tech. M@ther Fkrs stop selling my country. :mad2:

2.4 billion for 51 aircraft comes down to just a little over 47 million per aircraft excluding weapons. Kinda pricey!! But hey atleast its coming along. Just because we buy MICA in big quantity doesn't mean Rafale automatically wins. Mica's limited BVR range doesn't allow Rafale to use its full potential. MRCA in IAF will mostly use Meteor or Aim-120C-7 and Astra when its ready. 600 Mica for 51 mirages relates to 11 per aircraft, which are good numbers for active inventory. Every aircraft will always carry minimum 2 missiles on any mission for self defence that already is 102 which are deployed readily, you will alway have missions where more missiles are carried. 600 Mica is certainly only for the Mirage upgrade.

And, the thing is the first two planes would be upgraded in France by Dassault and Thales and delivered after 44 months ! Isn't that too much time for upgrading two aircraft ?

The IAF says that with upgrade whose final price will reach around 15000 crores or 4.3 billion dollars from the current quoted price of 2.4 billion dollars, will become top notch fighters for the next two decades, but still its a bit too much to digest, the price that is.

why Israel is not selected for upgrade though France is the OEM.. it would have been cheaper...
It is to honor & abide the contract with Dassault during procurement of Mirage.. As per the contract only Dassault can upgrade the Mirage..

^^^^ Seriously, everything is going wrong with Mirage since very beginning.. What we will be able to do with a decade old airframe and a generation old avionics by 2021?? I am not sure of what's exactly happening behind the screen with the upgrade.. But one fact is damn sure that our current leadership, agencies and defence sector heads were not even 1% fit for what they hold now..:mad2:

Outstanding!!

Had they not offered 40 new Rafales in two or three years ?

Now they need ten years to upgrade 50 mirages !!! Double standards.

WTF!! So the Mirage 2000s will be ready AFTER the MMRCA? Who got paid for this deal?
Dassault must be so happy to be paid $2 billion to upgrade a bunch of out of production aircraft!
