We will only know on republic day parade now
Tejas would've appeared in last 5 years, if they wanted to showcase on Republic day.

Also trainer variant doesn't look as sexy as normal variant. So it doesn't make sense to bring trainers for republic day.

@Rajaraja Chola i hope you know that 2*110 is 220kN which is greater than 210kN of f 35 ???

That's basic maths man
That is a single engine jet designed on the lines of F16. Even for single engine fighter their engine is huge.
Most of the 5th gen fighters are twin engines including AMCA. Moreover the AMCA mk1 is planned with 2 x 98kn engine. So comparatively with twin engine fighters, power of the AMCA is the lowest.

It is in line with the KF-21 Boramae, which is also similar in size.

Possibly the only requirement where a 98kN AB thrust F-414-INS6 may not suffice is the requirement to be able to super cruise to M1.2 using only dry thrust.

For the other requirements, as long as the AMCA's weight management is done carefully and empty weight targets are not exceeded by a big margin, it should be fine. This is where the learnings of the Tejas Mk1 should be institutionalized. i.e. every designer and stress engineer must know that weight management is key and all engineering techniques must be used to try and optimize the weight of all structures, especially secondary structures.

J-10 was designed with heavy inputs from Israel based on it's Lavi program. The issue they ran into was getting a suitable engine for a medium sized fighter and without any other option but the Russian AL-31, they had to size the J-10 accordingly. That is why it looks so weird in terms of proportions, with the massive vertical tail and rear fuselage to house the engine, compared to the forward airframe.

it also carries an underwhelming payload given how heavy it's empty weight is and how much thrust the AL-31 generates.

Basically the J-10 a mediocre design but has been incrementally upgraded with better avionics and electronics as the Chinese Military Industrial Complex has benefitted tremendously from the strides that it's civilian industry has made due to all the tech transfers that MNCs have made to build electronics in China.

In that sense, the PLAAF understood very early that they didn't have options to import, so they took what they had and kept on trying to improve it. Our IAF wants to get it perfect at the very start or else they lose interest and look for imports.

Wasn’t there a previous report saying the FA-50 was substantially cheaper than the others?

also how can all 3 meet the criteria and they pick the most expensive? That’s not how any tender works

interesting that the CAC’s local team includes former RMAF, that’s how you win bids, hope HAL is paying attention. In a few years HAL is going to have mountains of cash, I hope they have the freedom to operate as ruthlessly as the defence world demands and they aren’t run like another govt babudom.

SK lobbied hard to buy their Jewel. They choose an Advance Trainer against two full blown Fighter Jets.

In future we need to start Kuala Lumpur Lobby also.
