HAL is currently mfging the 2 seaters, they have delivered all single seaters, the fuselages of many MK1As are either ready or at several stages of mfging, they'll be assembled once the 1st tranche of 40 order is complete. MK1A will be delivered at much faster rate than it's predecessors i.e. 16 per annum, it begins in the 2nd half of 2024.

The second half of 2024 is about two years from now. The whole thing is being done at such a languid pace. By 2024, China would have manufactured at least 100 J10 D.

The dumbabu has led this country to disaster. They are arrogant and don't abide by rules, they themselves are rules and regulations. Till this iron frame exists, nothing fruitful can be done....

Delivery of the first jet 3 years from the date of the contract signature is the standard world over.
I didn't see members make a hue and cry about the delivery of the first Rafale in September 2019, a full 3 years after the contract was signed in September 2016.

FA-50 is a good product for their need. A light trainer/fighter at low cost and with many export customers. The engine is same with their already existing F-18 which have proved very reliable and less maintenance intensive all over the world.

I think that's the main reason. The other choice were Tejas which again has so far comes from a troubled history being criticised by the IAF and not so exciting defence sector unlike Korea.

Overall a good pragmatic decision. Lets be honest we would have done the same given the budget. Probably Gripen or second hand used F-16s etc could have been a better buy .
FA-50 is not even in the same league as Tejas. Both shouldn be mentioned in the same statement .

Comparing FA-50 to Tejas is an insult for Tejas

A dumb question: Can a MK1B be designed with 2x Dry Kaveri and conformal fuel tank for maritime training and backup fighter role?? The main area of concern, even if 50% payload deployment is achieved with LCA Navy, will be the range.

Don't zibber zabber read the post or stop quoting...

Anyway
What about Comparing Tejas with Rafale F-16s etc, it isn't their insult ? 😂

It won't be mk1b then... But a twin engine derivative . Why bother so much when you can have tedbf from scratch meant for naval role.

And kaveri engine isn't success even in its dry run add to that the thrust won't be enough and size weight of two engines much more.

Karna kyaa hain aisein chutzpah ka.

No, comparing Tejas with Rafale and F-16 is definitely not their insult. Their is commonality in the core technologies -

Design - Unstable with Relaxed Static Stabiliy
Flight controls - Quadruplux Digital Fly by Wire
Make - Composite airframe, Tejas has highest in the world
Cockpit - Glass cockpit with 100% digital system
Avionics - League about IAF's existing fleet with some degree of sensor fusion, along with AESA radar and data link.
EW suite - Yes
Maintainability- Easy
Semi Stealth - Yes
Air to Air refuelling - Yes
g limits : +8.5G/-3.5G
Upcoming weapons package on the mk1A - Astra, Asraam, BrahMos, Rudram, HAMMER, etc...no words!

And all this is offered at 42mil$ which is 1/3rd the cost of Rafale FR3 or less than 1/2 the cost of the latest F-16 variants.

Coming to FA-50

Design concept - Stable
Flight controls - Triplex Fly by Wire
Make - All metal
Cockpit and Avionics - a pilot can access better . However no AESA, not even tested as of yet.
EW suite - Not tested
Maintainability - Many grounded.
Air to air refuelling - No
G limits -+8G/-3G
Semi Stealth - No
Upcoming weapons - AIM-120 (currently doesn even have BVR capability)

And after all that, both are similarly priced.

And since both are similarly priced, i can compare other basic features like -
Weapons carrying capacity, Range, Speed, Thrust to Weight Ratio, service ceiling, etc......Tejas triumphs in every department.
I mean FA-50 can carry just one 600 L drop tank under its belly. Tejas can carry 2 x 1200 and 1 x 700 L. Lol.
