honestly with induction of Apaches, no need for Mig 27 type aircraft.

We only have 22+6 apaches.
We still need numbers in air force.Tejas can perform and has performed air to ground missions fine.

Mig 27 are a ground attack aircraft whereas Mig 21 are interceptors. not sure if Tejas Mk1A would qualify for that role.

this is LCA Tejas Mk 1 FoC. I dont think they will ever be deployed to a FOB.

NLCA has clearly demonstrated that, Tejas has quick turnaround time and can be relied upon.
The delays were reported due to software upgrade to for better climb rate & more weapon integration.
It will do well in role of Mig21 as an intercepter, the Mk1A or Mk2 will do this job better but this boy can do it better than Mig21.

Tejas can do swing roles can change its modes according to the missions.
Payload of MiG-27 is 3500kg.
Whereas Tejas can carry 4000-5000KG and with in flight fuelling system it can stay airborne for a longer time.
Tejas is much more capable than MiG-21 and MIG - 27.

thanks for info. is the RCS of Tejas Mk1 and Mig 21 comparable? one of the reasons Mig 21 is favored due to low RCS

in that case, it may just be a case of different squadrons of Mk1A being assigned different roles. 83 Mk1a comes out to 4 squadrons with 11 in reserve.

FOC-Standard LCA Tejas takes to skies on maiden flight
Bengaluru, Mar 17 (PTI) Tejas, the first Light Combat Aircraft in Final Operational Clearance-standard (SP-21) took to the skies for its maiden flight here on Tuesday, the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited said. Piloted by Air Cmde. K A Muthana (Retd), Chief Test Flying (Fixed Wing), the aircraft took-off from HAL Airport at around 1230 hours, the Bengaluru-headquartered defence PSU said in a statement. It was airborne for 40 minutes. This flight signifies exemplary team work between various stakeholders of the LCA Tejas programme such as HAL, Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance, Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification, Indian Air Force and Aeronautical Development Agency, HAL CMD, R Madhavan said. "HAL achieved the momentous feat within a record time of 12 months after release of Drawing Applicability List (DAL) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) by CEMILAC", the statement said. "This would pave the way for production of remaining 15 fighters from FOC (Final Operational Clearance) block, which are planned to be delivered during the next financial year", it said.

The FOC aircraft are equipped with advanced features such as Air-to-Air refueling and Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile system.

Really dude.... This is multirole aircraft with exercise performance excellence particularly in ground attack mode, not can say about air defence role but anyway I think IAF can push it.
WE should had done this in early but alas government was different.
