Not really, the UAE specifically asked for more detection range and additional A2G modes, which both could not be delivered at that time. The F3R now includes some radar upgrades to add A2G modes, but to get the required performance enhancement, the RBE 2 needs GaN and that's available only by 2025.

So radar certainly is not a prime factor for Rafale, neither in detection range, nor in FoV as explained earlier. It's the passive detection capabilities, that made it unique and sadly those are lost or not improved at all.
The point was range. With the european active modules the RBE2 range is no more a problem. And to add some modes is not a problem, only a question of customer ready to pay.

UAE is a fierce negociator. They want the best solution at a discount price.
But they lack a unique occasion, because Rafale internationnal in 2010 was without export reference, so they were ready to study and produce a super Rafale (ie with 9tons engins, this famous 13 or 14Kw radar, improvements on Spectra, conformal tanks...), but at a reasonnable price. UAE found it too high. OK, it's over.
But now that the Rafale line is busy until 2028+, Rafale international will not make the same effort.

Anyway, Sancho was speaking of initial discussions where RBE2 was not ready
When UAE ordered M2000-9, it was not ready also.
RBE2 at those time was operationnal in the french air force in a F3 variant : fully multirole, but with PESA. AESA was on study until yearS, with US modules, and waiting for european ones.
The european components were a very good surprise : they were far more efficient thant US counterparts (in reality, US send us low end spec components, for sure...)

It doesn't matter what fighter India buys -India will have to buy some European/American fighter to offset the dependence on Russian aircraft which has very poor serviceability and is way behind in avionics, radar, sensors, networking, etc.

So yes, India can spend billions buying Russian stuff, then spends more billions buying Israeli/ European/Indian made avionics/missiles/etc to retrofit their Russian fighters, and then spend even more money and time integrating all the 3rd party systems to their Russian fighters, which probably reduces the reliability even further. This is why India has no choice but to go for European or American fighters.

No matter how much people keep harping about the LCA.......no one in the IAF wants it.
Ultimately it is for the IAF pilots to decide which aircraft gives them the best odds against China & Pak....and they chose the Rafale.

Tejas is pretty high in demand and is fully customisable to Indian needs. It is the likes of F16, Gripen that has no demand

India won 2 wars with Russian equipment, India is safe due to Russian equipment, India is manufacturing Russian equipment, Indian aerospace got boost and developed to an advance stage due Russian equipment, and future war will not be won by imported equipments, as far as rafale is concerned, only Indian variant is advance than any other Indian fighter and Su30mki has been the work horse for more than 18 years, it will be for one more. All about availability, CAG REPORT suggest Su30mki, the most used aircraft by Indian airforce and now with the current availability of 65 percent and improving. Inferior avionics(Su30mki has bars radar, Mig29k and upg has Zhuk radar), all Indian fighters have Indian datalink, rafale will have that too, so networking is Indian, Su30mki has IRST, PESA radar since its induction, get above the word "possibility " and believe the actual report than the stunts played by west and Americans to down play Indian equipment which in the failed to prove their own when evaluated by US.

India fought and won two wars with French equipment so no Russia needed... see how easy that was?

Yeah Mig29s armed with R77 weren't giving air cover to M2k, despite a multirole, it needed an escort plane in the war, Mig21 was used extensively in 1971.

The point is it goes both ways. India has to make her decisions based on what is now, not the past.

India should make decisions on the requirement rather than Russia west and America and that's what India is doing.

If that is your feeling then why were you doing Russia this, Russia that?
