Good News. Congress-I's effort to buy 126 jets for 10 Billion USD was a hoax. A scam was almost about to hatch like Augusta Westland deal were they inflated price by simply typing three times the price even to the surprise of the vendor.

I hope there will be follow on orders if not then I may read it as asset of SFC for package delivery ?

BTW one Issue always concerns me about condition of our airbases. I believe operating such costly machines we must have best of the hangers/bunkers/shelters or whatever they are called. My fantasy is India should have fully under ground airbase. Many years ago I heard we have one somewhere in North or West regions.

Networking/data link 3D mapping of whole terrain and air theater like USAF has for Nevada (Re: Red-flag) would be another information I would like members to explain to dummies like me.

@p2prada; @gambit; @LETHALFORCE and all other good members.
follow on orders will be at the most for 18 aircraft ( for the same price per aircraft ) as envisaged in the contract .

We do have a data-link for our birds, but no 3D radars and Yes I agree with you that IAF should also have there own air theater and conduct exercises like Red Flag, but I think it won't be feasible as it requires a very large airspace covering several thousand miles. Do you have any place in mind?

Just read the Nellis Range complex area is ~110 Km by ~200 Km. May its the active area for combat training and exercises, the cover goes beyond that. I think I am running out of lexicon to explain things further.

I do note think more than 35-50 will be ordered coz if ordered there will be very less room for tejas.
That makes ZERO sense, there is next to no overlap between the Rafale and LCA. The LCA is the replacement for the MiG-21, the Rafale is the replacement for the Mig-27 and Jaguars. The LCA's payload and range is but a fraction of the Rafale's and it simply isn't suited to the same low profile deep strike missions the IAF seek their Rafales for.

We do have REVATHI based on 3D-CAR for Navy whereas for AF it goes by the name of ROHINI perhaps.

Isn't tejas supposed to replace mig 27s.
We got 250 sukhoi.
Another 120 mig 29 and mirages.
150 jaguars.
And if we add 200 tejas the total number of combat aircraft is 720.lets add 36 rafales now and the total is 750+.that's 42 squadrons of combat aircrafts, the sanctioned strength.
I do not think more than 50+ or even 30+ rafales will be ordered.

I agree that Rafale won't probably be more than 50.
But @abingdonboy is right about LCA range / payload.
So we won't have 200 Tejas. Last IAF report on the matter mentioned around 120-140.

I think as of right now we have around 60+ MiG-29s in the medium class to provide support for the Mirages/Jags/MiG-27s.
So the rest of the 60-80 fighters (4/5 sqdrs) could be something similar to balance out these 50 Rafales. And it might be the Gripen if MiG 35 is out of the equation. Something less expensive and more 'Air to Air'; but with lower RCS than the heavy class MKI.

It's going to be 200 Tejas for sure.
As tejas being the replacement for 200+ mig 21's and 100 mig 27's at least 200 tejas's are needed and there won't be any phoren make in India jet fighter for sure.why??coz if we add another 100 mii jets by that time fgfa will be ready(I am expecting 2025)and there will be 150 of fgfa's.
Now the total number becomes 900+ aircrafts(250 sukhoi.120 migs and mirages.150 jaguars.200 tejas's.60 rafales.150 fgfa's),way more than 750 combat aircraft sanctioned strength.
There is possibility fore about 900-1100 jet aircrafts but by 2030 or 2035 for a two front scenario.
