ersakthivel.... SC blade tech is already available in india...why are we not collaborating and adapting to make SC blades for kaveri?

HAL & Indian Political leadership made a blunder mistake in 70's , by not going ahead with project to build Aircraft engine for HF-24 Marut & Marut Upgrading of Marut to Mk2, Mk3 and so on was not done since IAF bought Jaguar & Su-7 which resulted HAL in being only so called premium aircraft industry fit for only license production

What is "First Block of Flight?" How many more "Blocks" to go?

I mean, how long before it is actually installed on the LCA?

HAL/GTRE has not taken any initiative for integrating the Kaveri to LCA shows that Kaveri is still not matured enough.

Indeed. It has been a pretty long time with this Kaveri thingy. Hope they get it off the labs and into production soon.

its besty to test in twin engine aircraft than directly into LCA, which i think is short cut they are planning..

Can't this engine be tested on HAL HJT-36 Or LCA TD Aircraft which flew in early 2000?

Since we are license producing both western & russian engine why can't those tech go into Kaveri & raise the thrust upto 100+ Kn , We should learn how to reverse engineer from chinese

Airchief browne has clearly suggested ADA & HAL to eiether steal or buy but hook or crook India should have high class aircraft engine & AESA radar
perhaps the platforms available with us are not fit enough to match the magnitude of testing being carried out in Russia. One simple reason could be, our trainers cant fly non stop at high altitude like IL-76 probably.

Even the Chinese haven't been able to properly reverse engineer turbine engines; their jets are using Russian engines. Gas-Turbine technology is very complexed, it is not easy to reverse-engineer.

Jet engines are very complicated pieces of technology. The Chinese had a head start and even their engines are nowhere in sight. It takes time to mature this technology. Kaveri has actually grown by leaps and bounds, and India's single crystal turbine blade technology is world class and a huge leap in jet turbine development. Sometimes it's easy to criticize out defence engineers because we don't know the mountains they have to climb and we just expect results. What they have achieved with the single crystal blade technology is no less than putting a robot on the moon. Cheers to our scientists! Work well done!

The biggest problem is making a SCB that doesn't crack under high temperatures. The Chinese have an engine that cracks and takes forever to spool up.

Yup, the process has to be painstakingly refined through repeated trials and error and that requires massive funding. The Chinese still haven't been able to do it right despite decades of work and funding, and Indian scientists have worked on the same thing with less funding and less time. That's why I think some people go overboard when criticizing the Kaveri project. It's made some pretty big leaps, but there's still quite a while go. We can't expect overnight results.

The Chinese have failed because they didn't do the work to make the technology. They think they can xerox something and it will work like the original. As they have found out, turbine engines are not so easy to duplicate when your metallurgy is obsolete.

If there is a talk about using Kaveri on LCA at the end of 2013 then it may be K11 ?
