Will it help us in developing Tejas engines ?
The Tejas Mk1, Mk1A, and Mk2 have probably the best engine that money can buy. This amongst other components contributes in a large measure to the overall reliability of the finished product. There is absolutely no need for the R&D of Mk1A, Mk2, AMCA, and TEDBF to have a dependency on Kaveri. We are way behind in our fighter jet development goals & all this allied stuff adds nothing but distractions.

Actually No , we will learn a lot from this project the way we did with AL 31 . But at the same time we should continue with other partners to develop our engine. If we had gone for AL 31 with Tejas from the beginning i.e. 2000 onwards for single engine fighter jet things might have been better for our industry.

We must remember USA has already moved on to next gen engines and is doing R&D for further advanced ones. They will part with this tech but will take lot of money and time to do that. Our Tejas project will be beneficiary of this. We should continue poring money for development of our own.

What's wrong in producing it in India rather than directly buying off the shelf from America.

And there is a lot one learns from screwdriver giri too. Atleast we will see how the production is run. How we can decrease the man hours by employing varied machines to do the jobs etc.

Having said that we have lots of Indian companies involved in Providing engineering solutions in engine field to companies like GE RR etc . But none which deals with Russian companies. Overall we will gain a lot.

In anycase if we aren't getting our own engine anytime soon.

If we screwdriver a phoren engine, we may get only the "know-how" at most, but to develop an engine we need "know-why" which we will never get even in a dream , so screwdrivergiri may help us only to streamline & to increase the efficiency of production lines, but definitely not the development of the engine itself, also if a screwdrivered engine fills our demand, then why would our babooz & netas look for development of an indigenous one

But manufacturing a proven design will help increase the pool of engineers with exposure to aero turbines.
Without all the screwdrivers HAL would not be able to try developing its own engines.

So, what should we do then??
Kill 110KN engine project in favour of screwdrivergiri??

Please do not say that we can do both of the them simultaneously, we cannot, the reason is simple, neither our babooz nor jernails nor netas will show any interest towards an indigenous development because the screwdrivered one will full fill our demand, just like how Kaveri AB version is abandoned after F404

Kaveri already had After Burner. Thats why it has wet Thrust figure.

I read the article..
The only mention of GE
Officials did announce one concrete step. GE Aerospace has applied for an export license for jet engine production and phased tech transfer in India, according to a senior administration official.
What this has to do with future gen engine you will have to explain.. So yeah it will be both. Considering that we will end up ordering 300 * 2 GE engines this looks like a normal deal.

Read again what I have said, Kaveri-AB version is dead as of now.
Kaveri AB roadmap ended the day LCA MK1 and 2 got married to GE 404 and 414. Kaveri-AB ended up being project where they can work out the issues - learn how to resolve, prove metallurgy and other technologies. The dry Kaveri (non AB version) - is something that will go in UCAV. I think more than anything GTRE right now needs a Flying Engine Test Bed. They need to test their engines, and refine it thoroughly.
