If you don't equip your jets with an engine upto contemporary standards of thrust and weight then you have an overweight low power plane.I think we are giving extremely challenging task to GTRE and drdo to develop A medium weight 110KN thrust engine.
It again proves India's ambitions always remain high.
The engine which are seeking neither Russians and amerikkii& french have developed this type of engine.
Chinese are only trying to meet Russian engine standards which is easier. We are trying to meet western standards of engine in terms of weight and thrust and reliability which is extremely difficult.Only countries which have experience in building jet engines are USA France UK Russia.
China and india both lacked the experience in this key technological sector we should see how Chinese how China Countered this thing they first used WS-10 in J-10 which resulted in crashes then they replaced them with AL-31 but at the same time they started to equip their dual engine flanker copies with W-10 which created a real life experience for them Chinese engine are immature lacked the life span throttle issues and what not but they kept manufacturing hundreds of these engines improving them each time and then they reached a level to approve WS-10 for J-10.
And those who think that kaveri is not capable of using in a jet should know that WS-10 testing in Russia 2009-10 was not great either and Dassault audit have already cleared kaveri for limited flight testing.
India should also equip MIG-29 with kaveri because both engines are of same category and it will create experience and will create manufacturing capabilities and their are many

Oh, please, if you want to comment on something, at least get the fact right. The J-10 was never equiped with a single WS-10 at all until today. Not that simple. The dry weight of RD-33 MK is 1145kg with 88kn thrust while Kaveri dry weight 1236 kg with around 80kn. You have to make a big change on Mig-29's structure to accomodate the extra 91kg and re-write the fly control to balance the shortage of thrust. Second graph is about temperature of exhaust gas from GE 404 , the NASA document published in 1986 . Exhaust gas temperature is about 1800C , Combustion chamber Temperature is more than this .
We can't settle on what achieve , we should improve , nobody is there to help us . We should develop materials and cooling techniques that can stand atleast 2300C for our future Aircrafts.

M88 has 50 KN and 75 KN thrust respectively , if we fix other issues of Kaveri then we can develop Twin Engine ORCA using Kaver engine , ORCA can supplement Rafale as a Rafale + Fighter .

Kaveri is pretty advanced overall. Max temperature is just 100° below that of eurojet while specific fuel consumption is in league of m88. Thrust to weight is low but almost 8:1 with some improvement can meet m88 8.5:1.

Actually its very low 0.18. The most there is 0.4.B
bypass ratio is very high compared to other , good for more thrust and possibly a good IR signature supression . The math look fine but the problem is we need the performance for a long time and in almost every condition where our Kaveri failed
