why cant we rope in some friendly foreign firm, like IMI for a JV in assault rifle, when we are doing it in high end missiles then why not something as simple as assault rifle.

Men do not like the new commers which will forces us to get another round of training and get to know new system which will be doing same things as the one before, We do not need, The Rifle we have 1B1 is better than what others have to offer, In terms of reliability and lethality and it works ..

As of now Excalibur is getting inducted and replacing 1B1s, Excalibur is more or less 1B1 with upgrades ..

I know that 1B1 is an excellent weapon, otherwise it would not have survived Indian conditions for past 15 years, but still getting some out side help to improve upon Insas will come handy.

yeah i think time to upgrade INSAS, we can use carbon fiber to reduce its weight. Plus we can use the P rail and folding iron sight and quad rail.

To me INSAS is like blackberry phone, it was top of the class for a long period. Now blackberry is a dinosaur which can has outlived its usefulness, simply because it was unable to adapt.

Point being that the next war of india is unlikely to a traditional battle, there is high likely hood of it being a hybrid war similar to Iraq invasion by Americans which is a mix of traditional and CT ops. We also saw how how tough it was for Americans to get a hold on the situation.

Just hoping that our military think tanks realise this.

Upgradation of soldier's kit subject to availability of funds ofcourse.

Now days most optics are made with P-rail adapter, Having P-rail on rifle will give advantage to mount any optics available in market ..

============

One can have fixed iron sight as well as folding depend on rifle design, Amogh carbine has fixed iron sights with p-rails on top..

============

Quad rail gives advantage to mount optics, Hand grip or torch on any side of the rifle fore grip ..

What advantages of P rail and folding iron sight and quad rail ?

INDIA LOOKS LIKELY TO SCRAP MULTI-CALIBRE RIFLE CONTEST

India's Ministry of Defence (MoD) is likely to scrap its 2011 tender for 66,000 multi-calibre assault rifles after four overseas vendors failed to meet the Indian Army's qualitative requirements (QRs) in user trials that concluded in October 2014, official sources said.
The Czech Republic's Czeca CZ 805 BREN, Italy's Beretta ARX 160, the Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) ACE 1 (a variant of the company's ACR rifle), and the United States' Colt Combat Rifle (a M16A1 specially configured for the Indian contract) are competing for the INR48.50 billion (USD782.25 million) deal.
The contract cost includes reflex, day- and night-sights, and laser designators.

Quadrails were always stupid. They add too much weight against the practical use. Quadrails are being dropped nowadays in favour of much lighter keymod and M-lok handguards. They are lighter and mini rails can be attached wherever the user wants them.
