Its seems like this new MK1C may be AR3, Where AR2 was a Excalibur in 7.62M43, The new phosphate coating is most welcome, As the photo of MK1C took by me was a dummy where as recent one is a real prototype, Which already went through harsh trails ..

Also, It worth noting this prototype was made within 4 months and by now it already half way through its user trails ..

More importantly in the 7.62x51mm version, the receiver lower is machined(milled) instead of being stamped like the Ak-series, INSAS. Notice the lack of dimples and sharper edges, corners unlike the one above.

The Finnish Valmet and Israel Galil both have milled lower receivers for superior rigidity and strength I have always maintained that from an engineering point of view even the original INSAS 5.56mm should have had a machined lower.

The downside is that this is more expensive and time consuming to manufacture.

All of the M1Cs are milled.---------------------

Like i said before,It would have been really nice if OFB had modified the gun and made it accept Indian 1A SLR magazines as there are plenty of them which could be used with these guns in that manner.

But after searching some other forums it seems to be a hard nut to crack.It's not only about changing magazine lock,front of the FAL/L1A1 magazine is wider than a standard .308 Saiga magazine (Civilian Variant of AK) so it might take some effort to mill receiver in a proper way that can sit a FAL magazine,Plus magazine lock tab on FAL is different than AK mags,so magazine lock would have to be changed,too.

FN FAL (Metric) and L1A1 SLR Magazines showing their magazine locking tabs

Nevertheless,This is a 25 round .308 Saiga magazine.Notice the different tab which is common in AK mags.

Finally,This is how 7.62 NATO Mk.1C would (almost) look like with a mag.

But use of wood in LMG & Sniper Rifle is odd, instead of more contemporary polymer/plastic materials

@Raj Malhotra the issue has been discussed a while back on the same thread. Please go through the entire thread and you will find answer to all your questions and much more.
P.S. take it as a friendly concern lest you will be told the same in a bit rebuking way by the mods.

The wood on Sniper is a user demand, While on LMG the wood can be changed to polymer or simply a folded butt-stock ..

I am sure this will further reduce FN-MAG version of OFB`s GPMG weight ..

==================

If you go through thread, you will notice people who have genuine concern while others solely for trolling & bashing, These types don`t have privilege to post in this thread any longer ..
