Why are we chasing INSAS rifle and its derivative firearms when the Army has made a decision to dump it?

Insas rifles and its derivatives are world class rifles. These firearms are adopted as standard issued rifles and LMG by one of best mil and paramilitary in the world. One of its 7.51 nato derivative is under trial to be adopted.

Next time on range will try to do something like this ..

Can't OFB make drum mags(100-150rounds) for Insas LMG? That way it will be able to provide more sustained fire to cover advancing troops.

How can you see a target at 500 meters from that small hole.

Their is nothing wrong with googles, They are very essential during dust storm or during winter in speeding vehicle, Not having one will sure hurt ones eyes ..

One can shoot static targets up-to +300ms with iron sights on1B1 with ease, How one does it cannot be explain on internet forum ..

INSAS 1B1 design is specifically for Indian terrain and IA training, I can`t say world class but surely good enough for Indian forces ..

You probably have no idea what its like to carry a 8kg firearm for kms, Above that additional +4kgs of ammunition with other tools along, The ammunition is not only carried by you but also others in the group, Belt / drum feed magazine has to be carried by boxes and not in magazine pouch which is also a headache in long run, One cannot conduct a charger with a belt feed / drum either ..

Though IA issued requirement for such a weapon call GPMG, Which is already inducted and under constant improvements ..

Or can be Trichary assault rifle ..

This is not the ghatak rifle.

1 Pistol grip design is different.
2 Butt stock design is different.
3 The receiver does not have indent above trigger similar to ghatak rifle.
4 The receiver appears to be milled rather than a stamped one in ghatak.
5 Front sight design is different.
6 Trigger guard design is different.
7 The gas tube design on ghatak rifle is plane in contrast to the pattern on this one.
8 The gas block on this one is 90 degree unlike the 45 degree of the Ghatak rifle.
9 This is most probably bulgarian going by its design.
10 There are few more points but I have given you enough points to prove that this is "definitely" not the ghatak rifle.

NDFB (S) cadre Langfa and David killed in an encounter with police in Chirang district of Assam. INSAS rifle, grenade among recoveries.

The shiny western rifles don't work in Siachen and Thar - army keeps learning this in circles

Drum mags are unreliable....more rounds mean more work for the spring...which means more failure and jamming

Just chamber insas lmg in 7.62x51 for lmg role. It can also be used as DMR. With shorter barrel (SBR) it would be an apt weapon for close quarter combats., all requirements will be fulfilled. But but, our army seems to be more interested in firangi maal.

could be IED guy, but in 70 & 80's these naxals used cycle dynamos for ied blast in AP.... flash light is 90's technique in AP, now cell chargers being used....
