^^^ I think the Russians are trying to fool us by releasing the pics of outside compartment which is nicely painted.. The top view of Vikramaditya shows nothing but a half built control tower and rough plate of steel....

Yes! The design of the carrier flight deck only leaves space for 12-16 fixed wing aircraft as much of the deck is utilized for the Ski-Jump.

I too would like to get some views of Vikramaditya without the scaffolding, however we shall have to wait for that it seems!

Yes. But it is not going to hit IOR anytime... It is just going to be their test bed for training their AC crew and pilots..

Chinese need still some more time and a better AC battle group to hit IOR before we will have our 2 active AC battle group to counter it.... :thumb:

Why are we waiting for the chicoms to hit IOR in our field, we should be handing their asses to them in their home field!

Correct..

The only way to get in IOR is via this route which is impossible, Unless IN cuts off China trade routes, And PLAN retaliate with a fleet..
Andaman will be IN Front in IOR..

In this case IN carrier have limited role as a counter force, The main fight will be from Andaman airbases and Missile sites, In war IN CBG objective is to prevent PLAN amphibious forces from landing on Andaman islands..

Kunal,

Slight Issue, Did you forget US bases in South Korea, Japan and Guam, So you wait for PLAN to attack our territory, We should be in South China Sea, or waiting at the mouth of the straits.

If we get into South China sea they can easily cut off our logistics support.. We might get trapped inside..

Also, it is too ambitious that we get into offensive mode in South China sea... Because a war scenario with China is not going to happen only with Naval commands... IN is going to do a job of patrolling the eastern front to avoid any misadventure from PLAN and by PN on the western front... War will be fought by IAF & IA...

we wouldn't need to go to south china sea if we did use a Submarine. USA already has China surrounded there in a naval sense.

No they cant, look at the map. Why are Indians are so risk averse and scared to be ambitious, the Chinese have no such qualms about coming to our territory?

IN cannot do that with their current forces, but in the future, they can do that with a few nuclear powered SSBN submarines. But remember, so can PLAN.
For any surface flotilla, like a carrier battle group, IN needs a friendly nation - like Vietnam (best), Singapore, Indonesia etc.

Our Advantage is in open IOR, Besides why to push our navy through this small channel in PLAN ambush?

China Sea is mainly dominated by PLAN and always be, Its colors can be seen in recent incidents also previous once....

Regarding getting in South China sea and sinking PLAN surface vessel is the Job of IAF SU-30MKI and others from Andaman..

Where IN vessels will be blocking PLAN ships from these Channels into IOR and also sinking PRC merchant ships in the trade lines..

Our primary Objective is to keep our offensive operation from Andamans and Vizag, Cutting off this lines will help us win the war..

Pink is the trade route
Red is possible PLAN fleet
Blue are IN activities in IOR..

IN needs a friendly nation - like Vietnam (best), Singapore, Indonesia etc.
Dont count them mush, they are good as watchers, They may provide Fuel for aircraft and Airbases for emergency landings but wont be involve directly, So does the US and initial stages..

Hardly a efficient design. As the INS Cavour for example can carry as many Av-8B's and/or F-35's on 30,000 tons fully loaded.

Kunal,

I have serious reservations about that map,

If PLAN has placed fleets in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Burma and in Pakistan. Then it is our Cuban Missile Crisis, We have already lost. The idea is to box them in South China Sea not let them get into IOR, I agree we need not go into South China Sea (SCS), but we should let them come out of SCS. At most Gwadar, PLAN may have some ships, but that gives India free hand in SCS. Also SCS is very cramped and small, with a lot of US allies sharing the real estate, even the US. China cannot assert its force there like we do in IOR, reason Korea and Japan wont allow. Nor will Vietnam.

Also if we need 3 carriers to be out in the open ocean in combat mdoe, we need 5-6 Carriers, As two will always go in repair and refit. There is no need of a carrier in the vicinity of Tri-Services Base, it in itself is a Carrier. A far more efficient one. We need Carrier's in the opening's of South China sea to Indian Ocean

Kunal,

I dont think GoI nor IN will allow that to happen. Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Burma etc will not be allowed to needle India in that way, if they do. Expect Indian bases to spring up in South China Sea, or preemptive attacks on them before PLAN arrives.. Also, PLAN isnt the king of South CHina Sea (SCS), There are way too many powerful US allies, S.Korea, Singapore and Vietnam, Taiwan.
