Discovery- Future Weapons SPYDER SAM System
How is that possible with the Indian government banning Rheinmetall Air Defense from doing any business with OFB for 10 years. Or can Rheinmetall collaborate with anothe player - private/ psu for this ? Just curious....:confused2:No, we are using the older once, there is probability that we may go for 35mm sky shield AAA and licence produce them rather update 40mm L70..
Its true, But IA prime contender was 35mm shy-shield..How is that possible with the Indian government banning Rheinmetall Air Defense from doing any business with OFB for 10 years. Or can Rheinmetall collaborate with anothe player - private/ psu for this ? Just curious....:confused2:
And the Oerlikon 35 mm is probably the best that's out there, somehow we have this habit of shooting ourselves in the foot whenever it comes to buying the best equipment. But yeah I would definitely like to see something like the Oerlikon 35 mm Millennium cannon in our list of equipment. Its true, But IA prime contender was 35mm shy-shield..
its not clear to me if they are buying MANPADS or VSHORAD?, i thought we already have Igla-S, is it not good enough.VSHORAD trials set for May in India | idrw.org
The Field Evaluation Trials for the Very Short Range Air Defense (VHSORAD) system acquisition being considered by the Indian Army are set to take place in India in the middle of May.
StratPost understands that four Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have been selected for the trials which will take place in India for an initial order estimated to be worth INR 27,000 crore (USD 5.4 billion) for over 800 launchers and over 5,000 missiles.
The army has selected the French MBDA's Mistral and Swedish Saab's RBS 70 for the trials, besides systems offered by Russia's Rosorboronexport and South Korea's LIG Nex1. At least two of the four selected companies had asked for significant delays in trials, which were denied by the army.
The Thales Starstreak system, which will be on display at DefExpo in New Delhi later this week, was also a contender but some reports indicate it to have been disqualified in the technical evaluation
All VSHORAD contenders are MAN PAD configuration that is they can be carried by personal themselves..its not clear to me if they are buying MANPADS or VSHORAD?, i thought we already have Igla-S, is it not good enough.
so why not produce Igla-S or better yet why not start a indigenous project, it will be much less difficult than akash or trishul project, if it can save 5 billion imports then its will be gr8. We try to directly jump upto the ladder instead of taking small steps. All VSHORAD contenders are MAN PAD configuration that is they can be carried by personal themselves..
Igla-S is good but these are imported, The winner of VSHORAD will be licensed produce..
They have not taken any step towards this before, nor there were any demand given by armed forces..so why not produce Igla-S or better yet why not start a indigenous project, it will be much less difficult than akash or trishul project, if it can save 5 billion imports then its will be gr8. on one hand DRDO is testing ballistic missile interceptors while Army is still importing MANPADs.
since the beginning our focus on weapons that are vulnerable to sanctions. may be its times to change things, start from scratch, even if its a MANPAD. It will also help the industry to growThey have not taken any step towards this before, nor there were any demand given by armed forces..
Looks like we will have the best and license produce them..
Ajay, decision has been taken to make those system which others have refused us, they are not making things which are easily available in world market.so why not produce Igla-S or better yet why not start a indigenous project, it will be much less difficult than akash or trishul project, if it can save 5 billion imports then its will be gr8.
