First is an H&K MP5, second is an Sig Sauer MCX (5.5” barrel), & third is a “CQB” SCAR-L. All of which have short barrels. Some people make the argument that short barreled 5.56x45mm (~5.5-9”) are for some reason a good CQB gun because they have better terminal ballistics than 9x19mm. I’d have to disagree, and say that short barreled 5.56mm (or 5.45) are “meme guns” that are likely used because of logistical reasons. These small caliber PDWs usually share parts, ammunition, and have similar manual of arms to larger more conventional assault rifles. Short barreled 5.56x45mm “PDWs” are extremely unpleasant guns when used indoors, and draw a lot of attention when shot outdoors. The concussion produced by these weapons is usually unpleasant for everyone but the shooter, & the noise is unpleasant for everyone. What about running a 5.56 PDW suppressed? Well at that point it’s lost its small size, and you might as well go to a more appropriate 11.5” barrel or just consider adopting a bullpup. The silencer also makes sticking the PDW in a bag or car more annoying as that likely extremely hot suppressor will easily burn things without an appropriate cover. Not to mention, submachine guns (such as the MP5) are relatively quiet guns indoors, don’t get SCOLDING HOT like small caliber assault rifles do, and they lack the concussion that is found on 5.56 PDWs. MP5s also are more controllable than a 5.56 PDW, and usually have a slower rate of fire than the VERY high rate of fire seen on AR15 type weapons. Just some food for thought, let me know what you think about the “5.56 PDW versus the 9mm SMG”. If I had to choose between my 5.56 “Krink” or 9mm MP5, I’m taking the MP5 because it is relatively quiet, low concussion, and good enough “stopping power”."

Another logic of a 10/11inch 556 is also that I can go from being effective "Outside" to being Effective "Inside" without having to change my gun

- Though that too isnt the most Ideal hence the MP-7


PS in a combat situation dont discount the Value of Shared Logistics.


The above does not apply to Urban CT units like NSG etf ofcourse

9mm will be their still for Paras and Nsgs in the form of their Mp9s,B&T new SMG NSG got Marco's just don't like 9mm after 26/11 but All forces from what I have seen actively trying 5.56 mm for CQB now NSG got some 10.5" Scars,Army is getting Carbines Marco's are using 9mm X95s so they don't seem to have any plans yet unless it's just 5.56 X95
