are'nt they just an infantry with a parachuting capability. So we can just say that, right
Airborne troops are basically infantry with severe disadvantages.

Depending on how far behind enemy lines they drop, they lose their ability for combined arms warfare in totality.

They probably can't call arty, can't be supported by significant armor, can't call air (if enemy SAMs are up), are heavily loaded for sustainment (thus hampering mobility), probably have a few injured from the jump itself and communication with troops in friendly lines will be sparse due to risk of detection (so lesser coordination with other units and lack of fresh intel other than the intel gathered by themselves).

A slight shift or oversight in planning could cause catastrophe.
Case in point- VDV in Bucha.

Such risky role, much wow.

Hmmm

some airborne units are arty

secondly depends how far they are to call arty or to not call

however they should be able to call airstrikes

Yep. I was thinking of exclusively Airborne infantry in my head.
Although if enemy air defenses are up, airstrikes may not be an option.

Again, all that is HIGHLY situational but the crux of the matter is, airborne troops have to be a cut above regular infantry to survive a full scale conflict with a peer nation.

Of course you could drop a bunch of guys on top of enemy guerrilla convoy like the french dropped their 2REP guys in Mali but thats just counter insurgency with extra steps.

In modern context with drones and shit ,airborne if deployed will be without any EW to protect them from drones they also don't have enough jammers and would face heavy losses from the hordes of drones from both sides .
Also we don't have enough aircrafts to supply them .

They can only be deployed when the enemy is already beaten to pulp and we just to end the war quickly .

Just how many fault lines across the board, in one freaking year.
This is nothing…this is just vaccum created by the units that have moved to LAC backed by poor sops and poor decision making followed by equally poor leadership plus the mirch masala of SF troops and their blunder.

More of this to come in coming years

They should've raised another RR unit to fill the gap.
