US Tier 1 (JSOC) units shoot an avverage of 300-500 rounds a week. Basis al the Bio books i have ready.

Cannot speak for NSG or Marcos but i doubt they shoot that much even in a month. Marcos EVEN less so. Simply put the budgets done allow for it. A decade ago i had broached this subject with a soldier - for the life of me cant rememeber what he said but it was a low number

Happy to be corrected
*2000 larger than the entitr Marine Corps in a year...according to Richard Marcinko's autobiography and several other books including Relentless Strike. 300-500 to regular SEAL Teams aur Green Berets karti hongi and our MARCOs and all too, maybee not as much as 2000 and that also because of the smaller budget. NSG does shoot around 1000 if not as much as JSOC guys do

There would be no op as such if the pirates already have control of the vessel and crew.

A takedown of a merchant vessel under hijack by pirates is done only if the captain has confirmed that all crew are accounted for and barricaded within the citadel.
So we only monitor for now

From what I've read, the pirates have taken over the ship and taking it to the Somalian coast.

That more or less means that the crew is in their custody.

The ship will be tracked and recorded for Intel for sure.

But once it reaches the coast, the ransom negotiations with the insurer will begin.

I really loved when I saw MARCOs' pics that of taking down a hijacked aircraft. It reminds me of Achile Lauro Incident.

In 1985, half a dozen Palestinian hijackers stormed aboard the Achille Lauro, an Italian cruise ship in the Mediterranean. Intending originally to head for Syria, they were refused entry. In frustration, they murdered Leon Klinghoffer, a disabled Jewish-American passenger. SEAL Team Six deployed and prepared to take back the ship. Warned of the coming assault by Russian code breakers in Damascus, the hijackers put the ship around and hightailed into the Egyptian port of Alexandria. They were welcomed as heroes. There, President Hosni Mubarak cut a cash deal with Yasser Arafat and put the hijackers and their boss—master terrorist Abu Abbas—onto an Egypt Air 737. Escorted by a squad of Egyptian secret police, the airliner took off for Tunisia. It didn’t get far. Tomcat fighters from the carrier USS Saratoga forced the Egyptian airliner to land at the NATO airbase in Sigonella, Sicily.
Waiting for them on the runway was a squadron of Bones Men led by Lieutenant Commander Avril Pikeman. He quickly deployed snipers, blocked the aircraft’s wheels, and demanded that the terrorists surrender. Moments later, two C-141s containing assault elements from the Red Men landed behind the Egypt Air passenger liner. The hijackers had been hijacked.
The surrender deal stipulated that they would be taken into Italian custody. That was a mistake. Italian Prime Minister Bettino Craxi quickly cut a side deal that separated Abu Abbas and two other senior PLO terrorists from the actual trigger pullers. Within hours, Craxi had provided the terrorists with Italian air force uniforms, fresh travel documents, and a police escort onto an Iraqi Air flight departing for Baghdad. Klinghoffer’s murderers were eventually brought to trial in Italy, but Craxi made sure that the big fish got away.

Now it's all good that MARCOs might be authorized to operate if and when the ship lands on coast of Somalia or elsewhere. It's equally possible for a political mishape to happen

It's not an Indian flag vessel and most likely the crew isnt Indian as well.

There is no reason for the Indian Government to intervene and take on the risk of carrying out the Op in a foreign land.

Taking down a ship with hostages in captivity of hijackers is way too many variables to account for, that too for foreign nationals.

MARCOS have done ship takedowns and liberated crew and ship from pirates before.. but in those cases, the crew and vessel were both Indian.

Yes, but IN was a part of the international maritime force patrolling the IRTC at the time and INS Mysore happened to be on the shift to respond to the mayday call from MV Gibe.

The difference there was that the pirates had not yet boarded. If the situation develops into that, a takedown is only done once the captain confirms that the crew is accounted for and on the citadel.

This is SOP for the Combined Maritime Force that patrols the region. That used to be the case in the 2012-2016 period atleast, when I was sailing those waters. Most likely the SOP is still the same.
The risk is too great otherwise. If the hijackers kill a hostage though, then all options come on the table.

I don't know what the present state is. Shortly after that period, the number of reported incidents had died down quite a bit till this.
