He was firing a rifle made for civilian recreational purposes and the ammo he was firing is called the 50cal SLAP (saboted light armour penetrator) rounds. The rifle probably wasnt rated for pressures like that. Its always harder for a bolt action rifle to malfunction like you see in the video, but when it does happen its far worse.

Eye protection is essential, not gonna say they arent but our snipers especially ones with the barette and the scorpion tgt gire imported match ammunition made with extreme precision. The rifles are tested with this ammunition and the rifles are also tested for military use, so a disastrous malfunction is going to be rare or unlikely.

Watching videos of ex-US SOFs and especially their tier 1 units (but it’s true for all their elite guys) and I realised what annoys me the most about the ‘Gucci Gang’ labelling/all is fine crowd has nothing to do with equipment (although that’s part of it obviously as that is a result of this) but is about culture and attitude

You can have all the good stuff in the world but if you can’t mount an optic properly or don’t have the proper discipline in how to use it it’s moot. What makes the top Western units what they are is their institutional culture and the ATTENTION TO DETAILS,every single thing that is taken into combat has a reason to be there, there’s thought behind it and they’ve tested other options but this is optimised for them

When I heard about DEVGRU’s tactical light SOPs and how seriously they took a white light AD it clicked

Meanwhile you see Indian SFs running around with seemingly utterly random setups, improperly and or loose fitted pistol holsters, elbow and knee pads (for demos only), ‘tactical scarfs’, sunglasses at night, no standardised anything etc etc. It’s always so random or awkward looking, it doesn’t look like there’s much thought behind any of it

it’s what separates the pros from the amateurs. It’s like how sports used to be played by weekend warriors but are now training us very scientific, india still follows the 1970s type of mentality where natural talent and experience are all that matters

Absolutely, many in service prior to 9/11 said GWOT was the catalyst for everything and revolutionised how they trained for and executed their missions from top to bottom

The issue is, india has been in their own WOT for decades now and hasn’t learned or applied the same lessons. What learnings have been applied? What revolution has occurred? They are still calling off missions at daylight and operating overtly
While I agree that WOT was the catalyst, I feel that the main reason is the prevalent gun culture and industry in the US. Thereby people have more basic knowledge about fire arms (those who are interested i.e) and from that basic foundation getting to where they are is much much easier compared to our country, where accessibility to firearms for the general public is almost nil. Not in any way defending the current state of our SF, but highlighting a possible cause for the lack of knowledge.

Could be. But he culture of innovation and encremental improvement is found across Major SOF units - SAS, French, Israeli, Germans, South Koreans.

IMO its not just about gun culture but a culture of excellence.

Can't we hire few from different countries and mix their training and culture depending upon our requirement
If silly take it as a joke

We’ve waited long for this day. Our “Born in Bharat” AK upgrade kits head out of our plant to serve in the hands of the Indian Army’s special forces. -SSS Defence.
They had to include the birdcage muzzle device for free, the special forces guys were happy with their slant brakes. They dont care about flash signature at all, this tells you how little experience they have fighting in the night. Western SF in comparison is extremely paranoid about flash.

Ofcourse we can. The first step is to first admit we arnt good enough and then beg borrow steal to improve. Today we don't even deem it important to provide proper LBVs to our men.
