people in this thread have literally gone bonkers.

I agree that in this decade Indian SF hasn't done any major operations except the surgical strikes of 2016 but that doesn't mean they are poorly trained or lack discipline. Please for god's sake stop equating gears and training.
Indian SF clearly fulfills the role for which it was raised. They have PROVED their mettle, be it the surgical strikes or August 2020 operations against China.

Strikes deep inside the enemy territory require political will. And those operators regularly train for these types of operations. So, saying PARA SF can't do ops which GB of US can do is very funny. They have done this in SL, Maldives, Sierra Leone, Myanmar. And this doesn't include ops against Pakistan
Hey sf didn't do any major op before surgical strikes in 2016  ye maal hum ko bhi chaiye . Lt. Gen GS Hooda se his interviews 2016 it was publicized to some extent surgical strikes are common along loc some find their way in books , some in interviews didn't Jacob and Nirmant sir say that what else we are not America don't fetish we just want our borders clean and all members agree that para is ill equipped among Indian sf and Western , tactics and training is as good as standards are with the equipment we have

Thanx for some valid point after the complete roller coster of this thread. I think we might want to back to the times of 3 or 4 SF Battalions for the Conventional war roles. 1 Battalion would be too small size for a army of our size.
1 battalion for the truly strategic high intensity stuff and the PARA airborne units can act like the Rangers (elite light infantry to support SF when needed). For the budgets india has and also limited sphere of influence (it isn’t the US that needs to have a global military presence) that is more optimal than having such a massive SF force on paper

I mean I agree our force is quite large and it does create hamper in our defense budget too but disbanding SF seems a bit too far fetched

Nah, are these ops officially accepted by the GOI?
From whatever I know, SS of 2016 is.
Para SF must Have God-Tier secrecy skills to be able to hide the fact that they have NVG's worth a damn, to conduct night-time operations... which makes no fucking sense as to why they would need to keep something like this secret.... as it is just staple equipment by now and cant actually be considered gucci.

Meanwhile, you have Garud operatives who act like teenagers whenever they get the chance... taking pictures of themselves in every pose known to mankind.
Indian Armed forces ka budget ka 70% salary dene me nikal jaata hai.
Inko zaada budget allocatin chaihye modernisation ke liye lekin gov nahi deti to fir gear ab bangladesh se aaenge?

Imo, the high intensity ops which you are referring to should be a second priority for us since the current Ukraine vs Russia conflict gives a decent picture about how the SF roles would evolve in a peer to peer conflict. Airborne Should focus on being Airborne rather taking up any other role. The Gap b/w SF and Infantry should be done by Ghataks. Having around 2K SF Personal is not a huge number considering european countries have similar numbers despite smaller size of their armed forces.

There are multiple done after that and many famous ones before that

Doesnt matter, Spec Ops are Spec Ops, there is no reason to publicise each and every op. 2016 and 2015 CBR were a exceptional case because of the circumstances.

Regarding helmets ask those in Charge i don't know any difference b/w Helmets with lvl3A and same NIJ rating it would be my pleasure if any one knows
Current mku helmet and Wendy exfil have same standards. IA requirement wants a helmet to stop ak47 round from point blank range with some weight and rail specifics

Between Garuds and MARCOs that’s already 4 battalions worth of SF. 1-2 battalions (~1,500 men) for PARA SF are the max that should be considered, current numbers are absurdly large and will ensure they lag behind the IAF/IN SFs and foreign units in perpetuity

of course we are just fantasying here. There’s no move to drastically cut down the size of PARA SF so this mess is here to stay

Are you that dumb , you think we have multiple battalions built for fun ?
PARA SF battalions are a versatile units where various units train for a particular type of warfare in a particular geographical area. However, all PARA (SF) battalions are cross trained for all types of warfare and environments.

Indian army Currently has about 5 to 6k para sf soldiers , you guys feel this number is bloated ?
Considering the land mass and terrain we have this is adequately required.
Also we need designated units for different climates and terrains , mountain warfare - desert warfare - jungle warfare are three unique challenges.

First you question the equipments fair enough
Then you question the training - debatable
Atleast leave the doctrine for the commanders yaar , start up samajh ke rakha hai kya ki koi bhi chala lega ???
Start up koi bhi chala sakta hai kya ?
#genuine sawal #no equipment #Teamgareeb #no standardisation #no night vision #no plate carriers #no quad nods # patka for life #dadhiwalafauj better equipped .

He was questioning the way soldier mounted his holster , got schooled by a veteran , peaked his achievements.
He didn't get schooled. "Veteran" here deflected the admittedly crass comment by attacking him rather than deconstructing his statement, which just leads me to believe that either he didn't have an actual response, or that he's infuriated by the insinuation of incompetence (maybe both).
