Tnx one question SG isn't permanent right? It's like NSG u do your time and back to your unit
Guys are hired for short assignments if they acquire a specific skill SG needs.
They usually do not go through SG probation.

Then their are guys who are bought in for a specific tenure like in nsg.

Some of theses guys are later permanently absorbed in SG.
SG do have a permanent cadre but majority I believe are on tenure basis.

this deputation practice is another reason why we lag behind in special forces realm.

I am not qualified enough to even talk about sg but we seriously need to figure out NSG situation you bring guys you spend time and money on those soilders and you don't get to keep them too.

I don't think we really know what SG is.
I remember seeing an interview of a guy who was responsible for leading and transforming one of the STF.

During the interview ,one of the pics shown was of him wearing a sg badge with sg beret.
But he was a tanker guy I believe , definitely not parachute regiment guy.

I tried finding that interview several times , but it just disappeared in thin air.

Also we know SG do not like his men talking.
The SG guy interview with military mantra was taken down within few days as well.

I belive SG is just R&AW's tactical operations hand .
They consist of members with different skill sets.
Tasked to carry out any task R&AW might want to without Involvement of army.

Well SG selects men from the army, most are from the Para SF. SG trains across the board though, with every agency (depends on what they're doing at the moment). SG is basically doing what ISA, RRC, CIA SAD would do. They were the first ones in India to train for counter-terrorism. That skill got given to the NSG, Army and MARCOS respectivley. No one can be sure of SG's mandate. It's dependent on what threat we're facing now and how the PM wants to use it. For ex, during PMs like inder kumar gujral, who banned covert ops, SG's role would just be to gather recce, or atmost some rescue of an important person. They would not have been involved in much sanitization actovities across the border or any uncovnetional or offensive role.

“In a major mission, the Indian naval warship INS Sumitra rescued a hijacked fishing vessel Al Naemi with armed pirates around 800 miles off the coast of Kochi. The Marine Commandos of the Indian Navy took part in the operation to rescue the crew of the boat safely. This was the second successful anti-piracy operation by the Indian Navy in the last 24 hours. Indian navy warships are deployed all around the Indian Ocean region to provide safety and security in the area: Indian Defence officials”.
