The first lot of M4's in the army were received by 11 para SF i.e. when they were created. Major Sahani, some officers and the CO insisted on procuring the AR's. 11 PARA is kind of a successive chapter of 9 PARA in the NE region considering it was created and the selection were made by 9 para operatives themselves. Wont get into more minute details but this what I could summarize.
P.S. It all boils down to the CO regarding procurements. Wo chahe to equip kar sakta hai adequately but kuch log hai jo change hi ni hona chahte. They would rather procure cheap fucking gears instead of high end products. We have been facing this issue in Gearsmith. We will be eventually looking to export our products rather than rely on the military. Bahut kosis kar liye but when mentality hi change ni karna chahte to kya hi kar sakte hai.
As I say- Paras are a broken and failed experiment.
no centralised training or selection, each battalion is a law unto themselves with weak oversight
forget about USSOCOM, look at the other Indian examples- even the navy has a MARCOs modernisation office in its HQ and only 1 training centre.
every ‘fix’ they try (expanding new battalions) just makes the problem worse. Paras need to be torn down and built from the ground up- the current iterative approach is just fiddling around the edges and the deep deep scars and holes will be exposed should india ever have to call these guys to do what they are actually meant to be able to do against an external enemy.
+ all Indian defence companies have to target exports as their main source of revenue, the Indian MoD is too fickle of a customer to be relied on
