During the heydays of army SF in COIN operations, 9 para used to augment female officers from MI for HUMINT and Local Liason. Whatever decision the army took right now has been implemented in the west since long long ago (read relentless strike, very nice book)
Although i share quite similiar views as you on women in combatant roles.
Ok that is understandable. Even Delta Force had the "funny platoon" which had women for HUMINT ops. Quoting from Pete Blaber's book who served as the squadron leader for A squadron in Bosnia and founder of the AFO type ops.
"It’s universally axiomatic that if two men are seen loitering together, or driving through a close-knit community, they stand out, and most people automatically presume they are up to no good. But send a man and a woman out in the same profile and people barely give them a second glance."
Same with 14 Int or SRR, the only SF in UK that has women. Read "First into Action", "She who Dared" and "The Operators" and you will find they did similar roles
