People have listed the stuff we need and the companies, domestic and foreign, which offer it a dozen if not more times before on this thread.

It's a matter of show me the money.
We have all the money we need. If we can buy farking $350 million a pop planes like C17, we can spare a few hundred millions for a comprehensive upgrade for SOF forces.

Problem is that the decision makers do not consider this a priority. Former high ranking officers have spelt out in black and white the serious institutional lethargy and aversion to change within the Para regiment which created stumbling blocks for even long-pending restructuring proposals. So one can forget tactical equipment which the brass probably never even bothers about.

Just like in MHA with NSG, only a major disaster of epic proportions can shake them out of their slumber and neglect of equipment. In the military, perhaps even more so.

Is there a rule book which says its a special op only after 'x' kilometers behind enemy lines? Perhaps there are other rules as well, like you need to look "tactical", wear gucci gear and come in with blackhawks and bust shit up with gatling guns because that's how they do it in hollywood.

I would like to know what are the plausible backups if Pakistan Army captures our SF troops. There is only one realistic strategy - not get captured - which is exactly what they achieved.

Are you aware that army units including SF maintain cross border links and have their own intel sources? In one of the interviews/books the SF CO clearly mentioned that they had their sources from within JeM. I find it amusing that you are crediting somebody else with intel success while obviously you (or anybody in this world) wouldn't have a clue about the intel source.

You have side stepped my point about infantry and Ghataks - why were SF asked to do this operation?

As regards to usage of SF and exploitation in CI/CT. This is a never ending debate and there is no one best way. For example, if I look at NSG, who is one of the best equipped special units in India - I see a waste of resources and talent waiting for a once in 10 years operation. What is the point of having so many SF around if they cannot be asked to fight our wars? You can always keep 1-2 SF units in reserve.

General Katoch's point of view that SF should be used for strategic ops is well taken but more than SF, it is the political-bureaucratic class who need to change their thinking. Before 2014 there were a lot more restrictions and total lack of appetite on anything remotely kinetic.

It was 7 individual targets located within 3km of the border. Seven teams left at the same time and of course they returned within the given time frame after having completed their mission. The tactical level planning was undertaken by the COs of 4th and 9th, because they were ordered to. Why could Ghatak platoons have not been used?

No hope for backup? That is the worst tactical error of the century then. Perfect intel was the DMI, nothing to do with SF. What, infantry is incapable of recce, now? Ghatak platoons are trained for LRRPs, 2 day recon missions should be a staple for them. Not to mention, these guys patrol LoC for similar amounts of time.

If you think these little 1km destroy operations across LoC, or regular COIN ops in the valley are all our SF are capable of, then the joke is on you. How do you explain raids in the early 2000s, TSD, Operation Khukri, etc. Our SF are being blatantly misused by people who don't know what SOF are supposed to be doing. Oh, and by the way, you were saying Ghatak platoons aren't capable of trans LoC raids? 5 commandos, not even a whole section, crossed well into PoK and killed 4-5 Pak Army soldiers, *according to the pak army*, including a major. And planted multiple IEDs. Imagine the damage they did if pak army were forced to accept 4 casualties...

^
^He's been crying himself hoarse as to how special forces cannot be used in COIN ops.

SF in the middle with Tavors & Bump High Cuts
Those aren’t even ballistic helmets AFAIK

so high cut, TAN non-ballistic helmets to India’s most elite units, doesn’t get more ret@rded than this

But sure guys, go ahead and pretend like everything is a-okay.

don’t then be searching for exotic explanations the next time a few holed up tangoes mows down an entire SF team doing basic room intervention drills

Every 2/3 months you pop up and say the same thing.

Articulating again. It's not a question of them sitting in their barracks and doing nothing vis-a-vis going out in CASO . Those should not be the only 2 options.

Also just as a FYI what JSOC did in COIN in Iraq and Astan is a world of difference from what not al army or even vanilla SOF was doing. Sure they also did force support operations but that was not the norm that was when they had no missions of their own.

Unfortunately month after month. You still arnt able to comprehend.

To give another example. Why is MARCOs and Garud deployment to Ladhak all over the news ? And that too in static position. garud are manning Iglas on mountain.peaks and Marcos is patroling a lake.
There’s nothing wrong with foreword deploying SF assets

Strategic assets are only as good as their preparedness, they don’t get hardened by sitting at home watching movies and playing PUBT

Your characterisation of what they are doing in Ladakh is nonsense sorry to tell you

This.

decision makers in civilian and military leadership don’t see SFs as strategic assets, as simple as that. That’s why they are in such a dismal state

India is building $1bn USD destroyers and inducting BVRAAM that cost upwards of $1 EACH

To equip every mil SF to Western standards would cost less than the cost of a single Rafale. God knows why the army needed to order just SIX AH-64Es for $1bn, imagine what even a fraction of that amount spent on PARA SF would do.

alas, misplaced priorities. Army generals are trying to plan for wars using WW2 era tactics and their civilian ‘leaders’ are lucky if they even understand the difference between a tank and an IFV

this is why AFSOD and eventually )fingers crossed) the full fledged SOCOM is the only hope BUT even then just having it doesn’t make a difference unless leaders know what it is and how to use it

The news of the SF deployment is a big failure in my opinion.

Firstly,Garuds and Marcos position are comprised.

All china needs to do now is call in arty or airstrikes near the lake and mountain top or even a suicide drone attack.

Secondly,to patrol this lake we took almost 7 months to call Marcos and to order new boats as well.

Now what advantage will the Marcos give us on a Frozen lake with a new boat only our respected Generals would only know better.
