It was 7 individual targets located within 3km of the border. Seven teams left at the same time and of course they returned within the given time frame after having completed their mission. The tactical level planning was undertaken by the COs of 4th and 9th, because they were ordered to. Why could Ghatak platoons have not been used?
No hope for backup? That is the worst tactical error of the century then. Perfect intel was the DMI, nothing to do with SF. What, infantry is incapable of recce, now? Ghatak platoons are trained for LRRPs, 2 day recon missions should be a staple for them. Not to mention, these guys patrol LoC for similar amounts of time.
If you think these little 1km destroy operations across LoC, or regular COIN ops in the valley are all our SF are capable of, then the joke is on you. How do you explain raids in the early 2000s, TSD, Operation Khukri, etc. Our SF are being blatantly misused by people who don't know what SOF are supposed to be doing. Oh, and by the way, you were saying Ghatak platoons aren't capable of trans LoC raids? 5 commandos, not even a whole section, crossed well into PoK and killed 4-5 Pak Army soldiers, *according to the pak army*, including a major. And planted multiple IEDs. Imagine the damage they did if pak army were forced to accept 4 casualties...
Troops cross LoC, surround enemy, blast IED and shoot targets in a flash; local units authorised to carry out such attacks if needed.
