He said 'deep' strikes specifically. Not 3km from the border. Deep, as in heart of PoK. And in one of his articles, he did say that Surgical Strikes didn't warrant use of SF...
But Lt gen Hooda had said the deepest strike was somewhere around 8-10km, I may be wrong on the distance.

Where was this specified? By DGMO?
cause I remember Lt Gen DS Hooda in an interview had said that this scale of strike had not been carried out earlier and he also mentioned we went in fairly deep. Surprising if fairly deep means 1-3km.
Read up. 1 to 3 km. That much I'm certain of.

I read somewhere that in the 90s, there were full batallion level assaults by forward units on Paki posts, supported by artillery.

The ignorance and pre-conceptions about our SF have gone a bit overboard.

Could Ghataks or Infantry have executed the Surgical Strikes? If so, why didn't they? Why bring in SF for the op? If the planning was by Infantry generals who lacked imagination or experience in employing SF then why ask SF to come in?

There is only so much we know about the Surgical Strikes and Special Forces in general. Most of what we know in public domain is for the ops by 4SF, and almost nothing about what 9SF did. In all things SF and Intel, we can comment only based on what we know. For other bits we cannot only hope for information to come out.

Somebody asked if SF officers were involved in planning;

There is talk of how Surgical Strikes was not a special op. What is the definition of a special op? How about attacking 7 targets (Pic shows 6 as 7th target was empty) across a 250km front in total surprise, across one of the most dangerous and heavily defended borders in the world? No hope for backup, with near perfect intel and preparation including recce behind the lines.

It was 7 individual targets located within 3km of the border. Seven teams left at the same time and of course they returned within the given time frame after having completed their mission. The tactical level planning was undertaken by the COs of 4th and 9th, because they were ordered to. Why could Ghatak platoons have not been used?

No hope for backup? That is the worst tactical error of the century then. Perfect intel was the DMI, nothing to do with SF. What, infantry is incapable of recce, now? Ghatak platoons are trained for LRRPs, 2 day recon missions should be a staple for them. Not to mention, these guys patrol LoC for similar amounts of time.

If you think these little 1km destroy operations across LoC, or regular COIN ops in the valley are all our SF are capable of, then the joke is on you. How do you explain raids in the early 2000s, TSD, Operation Khukri, etc. Our SF are being blatantly misused by people who don't know what SOF are supposed to be doing. Oh, and by the way, you were saying Ghatak platoons aren't capable of trans LoC raids? 5 commandos, not even a whole section, crossed well into PoK and killed 4-5 Pak Army soldiers, *according to the pak army*, including a major. And planted multiple IEDs. Imagine the damage they did if pak army were forced to accept 4 casualties...

^
^He's been crying himself hoarse as to how special forces cannot be used in COIN ops.

You can either keep SF in their barracks waiting for some open skirmish or war with their dicks at hand or you can use them when you please and have them try to hit real targets once in a while. Niggas get over yourselves.

Delta, ST6 have been used for specific missions in COIN context for the longest time. Quit bitching ya'll. Every nigga here seems to be elite warrior.

Every 2/3 months you pop up and say the same thing.

Articulating again. It's not a question of them sitting in their barracks and doing nothing vis-a-vis going out in CASO . Those should not be the only 2 options.

Also just as a FYI what JSOC did in COIN in Iraq and Astan is a world of difference from what not al army or even vanilla SOF was doing. Sure they also did force support operations but that was not the norm that was when they had no missions of their own.

Unfortunately month after month. You still arnt able to comprehend.

To give another example. Why is MARCOs and Garud deployment to Ladhak all over the news ? And that too in static position. garud are manning Iglas on mountain.peaks and Marcos is patroling a lake.

Posting MARCOS, GARUDS in Ladhak is part of getting them used to the hard knocklife at high altitude warfare and improve on Jointness between the services. You eventually can't have a proper AFSOD when the 3 services haven't practised working together on the ground. Besides when the real action starts MARCOS will play their role near the Lake and Garuds will go about dismantling enemy air defences. You can't do that while keeping them in their bases deep in country or worse near Vizag, Mumbai etc. I'll say it again, we can keep them all bundled up nice and happy in their training centres or use them or deploy them to forward regions. A hand that's not used for bitch slapping once in a while is only good for masturbation (barely).

MARCOS Deployed Near Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh, Naval Commandos to get New Boats Soon | Bharat Shakti

Unfortunately month after month you bitches only prove to be useless arm chair negros. Leave the war fighting & decision making on the ground to professionals of the services who understand the ground realities far better.

Everyday the same BS, equipment, comtacs, rifles and randi rona.
