A Saga of Courage & Camaraderie

During the night of 2/3, the fence was cut in the AOR of 8 JAT, who detected it early morning of 03 Apr, informed the Formation & launched the opposite to track the infiltration tracks. From the footprints it was estimated to be a group of 5-6. Other units in vicinity were also mobilised & columns of 41 & 57 RR were pressed to establish a tight noose on possible escape routes.

Also, 4 Para was brought in, dropped by ALH on upper reaches to comb the area from top down. After establishing several dets and putting the area under surveillance using Quad-copter certain hotspots indicating possible locations of terrorist were identified. One such possible location was along a Nallah. The noose was further tightened with 8 JAT laying stops/ambushes on escape routes on the lower ridges & in the nal, while the 4 Para squad sweeping top down. At around 0430h the first contact was est, but the Terrorists managed to escape downwards along the nal. The JCO along with his squad started the chase in order to re-est the contact. At around 0830h contact was re-est.

As Sub Sanjeev along with Amit & Chhatrpal were trying to close in with the terrorist using a slight detour, unfortunately the snow gave in & the 3 of them slipped into the nal right in front of the terrorist. Despite the set back, and with grevious bullet injuries, they fired back & killed 2 terrorists. Ptr Amit sustained 15 bullet injuries while Sub Sanjeev & Ptr Chhatarpal also sustained numerous bullet injuries. Hav Devender & Ptr Bal Krishan charged in to extract their comrades without caring for their safety, & eliminated the balance 2 terrorists. 1 of the terrorists, the 5th one managed to run down the nal, but was eliminated by the stops of 8 JAT.

The squad of 4 Para (SF) fought bravely despite initial setback;
true saga of courage n camaraderie!

You are right. It's really disheartening to see some of us talking about death of those guys in such casual manner. Bhagat Singh paida ho par mere ghar me nahi.

Two squads of the elite unit were deployed to locate and take down the infiltrators but the operation was carried out under heavy snow that hampered visibility. Source said that the squad led by Subedar Sanjeev Kumar spotted the footsteps on the terrorists in the snow and followed the trail.

At one point, the hardened snow under their feet gave way and three members of the squad stumbled into a nallah and right on top of the terrorists who were hiding there. In the ensuing battle at point blank range, where the terrorists had an advantage as they had been waiting, the squad managed to put up a fight.

Seeing their comrades under heavy fire, the two soldiers who had managed to evade the collapsing snow also rushed into the battle zone, together managing to take down the entire batch of five infiltrating terrorists.

“The soldiers and the terrorist were found barely a few feet away when the other squad reached the position. The para soldiers had put up a strong fight even after stumbling down and the squad members rushed in to help,” sources told ET.

( maut k samne ane k liye jigra chaiye hota h wo bhi sher ka those two soldiers who managed to take down 5 terrorists could have left or waited for the reinforcement but they charged . I'm proud of our troops)

It indeed is a tragedy . You are absolutely right when you say that firefight is a dynamic situation and the moment first round is fired every planning goes out of window and the only thing which helps is keeping a cool head and that's why our SF guy go through such a grueling selection. Lastly, my sentence was perhaps not targeted at you but what I really wanted to say is that this is not the right time to dissect the operation in which they died.

What's the point of court martialing an officer when the government doesn't let them do anything, could have easily bombed the place but no we aren't gonna escalate it while they keep crossing the LOC. And obviously there are gonna be such incidents as well when certain things don't go in your way.
A thorough investigation should be done and let's hope no one becomes a scape goat Unless they're at fault.
