A rag-tag African militia or members of the elite special forces of the world's 5th largest economy?

Unfortunately, this paints a picture which is not true.

They look like a bunch of indisciplined soldiers who wont carry out orders because they cant even respect the uniform.

But the truth is that they are among the best disciplined soldiers in the world and would die to complete a task given by their commander.

I dont know why we are like that.

As soon as soldiers go to kaashmir they stop shaving and grow a beard even if they are not a part of undercover ops, grow hair and color it and wear clothes as per their wish.

US troops in any theatre or even UK troops dont do such things except SF.

Indeed, and on top of that it makes them look incompetent and unskilled.

It blows my mind how a professional army that is an@l about tradition and dress in peacetime lets itself descend to this in live ops.

Where are all the NDA/IMA "gentlemen" officers and their standards?

I think it has to do a lot with the suicide rate going high as a result the higher ups thought of giving them a free hand.

Around the world special forces look like this in active theatres. Looks dont matter if it is only related with beards hair etc and not related with the equipment and gear.

SFF do all the ops Para do.Higher command doesnt differentiate between the two.

SFF was also deployed in Siachen in the 80s.Always did CI/CT ops in Kashmir and cross border raids just like the Para.
From what I've heard, SFF is an Airborne Infantry with a geographical specialization.
Are you sure? Not doubting you, just a bit curious because I've heard the massive size of SFF won't be feasible if they were all SOF operators due to the cost of training and equipping so many people to the same standard as Para SF.

Or are you saying higher command employs them in the same role but without the sophistication of training and gear Para SF enjoys?

Is it just me or anyone else thinks that our soilders (even normal and not SF ) look tougher than 90's and 2000's. I am not taking about difference in gear. If yes what could be the reason in your opinion.

Mood of the nation reflecting in mood of the soldiers....

They are Indian citizens, after all.

That's not excuse, these are SF operators. Other SOFs are doing much harder tours and handle it and they also do so without looking like members of an African warlord's reserves.

Well this isn't true at all

US SF in Syria:

In Afghanistan:

SAS In Afghanistan:

Australian SASR in Afghanistan:

French SF in Burkina Faso:

In Mali:

Yes standards are relaxed but Indian SF take it way too far..... every other soldier in a different camo and helmet is a pathetic sight, remember the IA consumes $20bn USD every single year.

Ok whoops... I meant this new camo (same colour palette but pixelated) we're talking about that's only seen on some Indian & Bhutanese forces.
Yes, that's the one I'm talking about. I also used examples of MARPAT because that too is a pixelated camo just like this one.

The role is similar.Theres hardly and difference in the ops of SFF and Para SF.

I was watching few older pics of Indian troops in kashmir. I found them to be skinny. When i go through recent pics or videos soldiers look more rugged and well built. So I was just wondering over this thought.
Nutrition standards of the country has increased and that has contributed in increase of height and weight.
Average height in 2001 was 5'4, new surveys arent carried out but my guess its probably 5'6 or 5'7 now.

They do look like AFSOD guys
Different camos and shoes
Helmets looking new
Very likely. If you notice their trousers/cargos , you'll find there are different types of camouflage patterns -

1. Old air force / garud camo
2. Regular camouflage of army / RR
3. Digital or solid colour camo of Marcos
2 new patterns too.

That indicates they may have been commissioned from different SF units. Only similarity among them is the high-cut helmet.

Also I am pretty sure training methods have changed to include more weight training. Not necessarily a good or bad thing, it's just different. Israeli soldiers for example are still pretty lean.

You are entitled to your opinion but me thinks you are carrying this obsession with uniformity a tad too far. The fact that others are doing it is not germane in itself, these guys are doing a job and that does not have as an imperative that they impress others with their choice of camo or gear. I take your point that they may need to get better equipment but the obsession with uniformity is unnecessary . A lot of the para sf work in Kashmir is anyways done out of uniform , in plain clothes; what leeway they are given is decided by people better versed in the intricacies of their work than many of us. Deriding them as looking like an African warlords militia places way to much importance on how they look versus how they perform. For my part, I will go with the latter.

The IA uses the HE round mostly which is the black one.

The green one is of a more intensity or anti tank.

Its a guess..i might be wrong.
Those are protective cases for the rounds. The rounds are inside those cases. The black one is HE and the green one is HEAT(Anti tank). It has a long protrusion like a nose which is actually a fuze to detonate the explosive cone when the round hits any surface.
