they were in a freakin land cruiser, without a back up. Not even a Humvee. An A10 warthog would have made mince meet of those ISIS bastards. Also i think all SF ops needs to have a UAV back up atleast when ur not trying to blend in.
The thing is that they had not gone for an op. They were with the local soldiers on some village outreach programme.

Doesnt matter, when they know its a hostile territory they should always have back up. BTW i dint see any local militia. If there was any drone they could have warned them of hostiles approaching. Whts the use of all the technology of they cant use it.

Is it that the moral of the story being... without Air support, American soldiers are same as every other soldier?
American soldiers are not super humans.

At the end of the day they are superior only and only coz of the technology and the big budget.

Most of their ops have an air support element.

Once the enemy response is overwhelming the first thing is call for support.

I am not at all surprised or saddened by what happened.

Surprised coz i know what happens when you fall in such traps with minimum resources and saddened because i have nothing to do with what happens to Yankees.

Only Indian soldiers pain saddens me who are operating with much worse resources in Naxal territory and its better if we appreciate their sacrifices before criricising their sacrifice and calling for the Army to take control.

Exactly...An American SEAL with the resources of a CRPF jawan will also have a casualty rate which is high.

I agree it wont be as high as CRPF which couldnt follow SOPs sometimes but what can a soldier armed with AK 47 and his 40 other comrades do when sorrounded by 400 maoists?

What happened to the Americans is what happens in the end.

Human wave tactics wins eventually when the bullets end.

And no matter how well trained you are or how high tech you are there is the end coming by.

So lets take a moment and think about our CRPF guys facing such situations everyday since decades.

in this regard, i have high respect for the Greyhounds. there was one Greyhound commando who took on a whole bunch of Naxals and wiped out single-handedly. i think he was awarded Ashoka Chakra.

Got some additional details on the Tongo Tongo ambush. 4 Americans and five Nigerians were killed in the ambush.

The jihadis sent a herd of cattle ahead to create a cloud of dust that made target acquisition difficult. They also had about a dozen technicals along with rpgs and mortars.

To execute all these they should have planned, so they seem to have had prior info of the movement.

Yeah, Nigerian authorities have publicly blamed the villagers and arrested the village chief.

At the end it seems they knew they had no chance. The point blank shot, wonder how the relatives and friends have courage to see that

I agree with the members about the filter we use to Judge our own forces.

SPECIALLY with the recent Garud casualties. Ambush are Chaotic and extremely sudden and over before you know it.

SOFREP has a more detailed coverage.

French SF came into extract the American Soldiers in the end. French AF was running CAS. However break down and Comms and C&C delayed their arrival.
