4 Vikas ain't SG (unless they are on deputation) neither this is PTS Agra. The Curtiss C 46 (procured in 1962) in the background is big giveaway.

Secondly SG/SFF/ Vikas have a separate PTS far away from PTS Agra.

Vikas units are specialized High altitude warfare units since decades and one of the first to be deployed on Siachen heights under Col and also the Task force commander Col Pushkar Chand (later Brigadier). Totally unrelated with SG

Other unit was 4 Kumaon.
Saraswa not Agra, corrected, rest I have to confirmed

4 vikas was converted to special group in 80s.

Prior to that the original special group raised by col choudhary(?) Was converted into SAGs of NSG.

My understanding.

In pic - Special Group Cadets , after successful passing the parachute training at PTS Agra
Disappointed, would like to see an actual combat/training pic, not just standing around posing for a camera in their dress uniform.

These guys are WARRIORS, let's see them doing what they do best......

Jawans and officers from all the units of the army can join the special unit.
AFAIK pretty much every member of SG is from the Special Forces community,

I say LET THEM do what they do best and on our part LET'S equip them WITH the best equipment and the best support.
100%

They are no doubt the best India has to offer and thus should be equipped accordingly, there is no excuse anymore if these guys at least cannot be equipped as well as any top tier NATO SF unit. India is not an insignificant or poor nation today, if its very best unit is not equipped like such a unit from France/UK/Germany/Italy then we should all hang our heads in shame and demand answers.

SG has barely 500 operators, each soldier could/should be outfitted with all the "gucci" gear common in the West for $100k (even this is maybe 3x more than would be needed) each or a one off cost of just $50,000,000 (with maybe 30% of that annually to replace/update), about the price of a SINGLE LCA MK.1A or an AH-64E.

100% Agree. And you dont even have to look at Western forces for examples.

Just look at Polish GROM or the Phillipino LCR (Light Combat Regiment) - Both are Tier I of their country - and pound for pound equivalent to the best SOF units out there.

This might be a bit off topic and I am a layman in terms of our special forces and their training. I've seen the video just now, I was hoping where would our forces stand.... This might sound fanboyism, but I know very little to make any assumptions..

I was hoping for Marcos, Para SF, NSG & Gary's(I am not sure on Gary's making top 10)

PS, If I've missed out any special forces, please let me know.

Gurus, please share your inputs...
