They are so smoky. Our Warship Design Bureau shouldnt have selected them for our destroyers. They make a smoky mess at every port visit. So much for stealth destroyer.
Because diesel engines are to be used in such low speed transit not those gas turbines. At low speeds gas turbines are very inefficient, their band of efficiency is very narrow i.e at full power output much more considering they are the worst out of all available gas turbines compared to GE or RollsRoyce. The Vizag class are COGAG propulsion based. All four are gas turbines. It is excellent for Capital ships but lose out efficiency in low speed. Generally warships of its tonnage around 7500 tons use COdAG or COdLAG like FREMM or Type 45. They have Gas Turbine for high speed sprint and diesel engines for low speed transit. I don't know what the reason of navy to go for 4 Gas turbines instead of codag. Maybe they amended their ways since they are implementing codag in Nilgiri class. Also note that marine diesel engines are very space conscious and noisy. But one thing our Navy did right is go for codag in Nilgiri class.

Smoky yes. But show me any other GT that has the ability to go in reverse almost as fast as in forward. The thrust reversal mechanism is a mechanical engineering marvel!
Isn't that due to the gearbox and clutches? The turbine of course doesn't change it's rotation direction.

Not only that .. if the IN is set upon electric transmission , the power output from turbines can be be reversed with something as simple are a full bridge rectifier...

The solution is different. Turbines connected to alternators generate 3 phase power. Then a VFD control system is used for speed control of induction motor (the propulsion drive).

Also, rectifiers are used to convert AC to DC, they don't can't change any direction.

I was reading some iranian opinions on Kolkata class and follow on class of ships
By God, they are either idiots or completely haughty.
Both things will lead them to another destruction, from usa .
They mentioned the hijack of the cargo ship but never mentioned who saved them instead just " military forces " whose military forces you hiding duffers ?
Yours uncle's or your father's ?
They are completely out of touch, not even knowing about vikrant ( slow claps ), saying p 15 and p 15 B have a poor weapons placement.and that it is underarmed ( only valid criticism) apart from that total goofs.
No wonder what happened in operation preying mantis .

Good news, bwoys. Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL) has acquired a majority stake in Zorya Mashproekt India Limited engine company. While the main company in Ukraine is still a significant stakeholder, this gives a certain leverage and assurance for our warship engines.

ZM is the principal supplier of engines for most of our locally-made warships, sans the INS Vikrant and a few smaller ones. Admiral Hari Kumar went out on a limb to say that the Navy is going to look for ways to strengthen self-reliance in the engine department (though he used the Ukraine War as an excuse).

Looks like the Indo-Ukrainian ties are not on ice as much as the Western Liberals would like to see it. ZM parent wouldn't have allowed the acquisition if Little Z was so cross with us. They are a wholly government-owned company.

Guess the Ajay Devgn strategy of foreign policy is reaping rewards under the surface.

More of a transmission side thing than engine alone isn't it ?

Iranian shitbrains calling the P15A/Bs underarmed is the most hilarious shit I've heard all day. They don't even have a SAM capable of intercepting a Brahmos on a kill course, neither do they have an anti-ship missile even capable of going past the MRSAM, hell the YJ-18 copy paste probably can't even get past Barak-1. Shitbrains have less credible surface assets than the number of missiles carried by each of our ships. "Poor weapon placement" ? says the shitbrains who don't even have a credible CIWS system in any of their surface combatants equipped with outright ancient radars, and whenever they end up mounting an autocannon to a riced up looking boat, half it's arc is blocked by other machineguns or the hull structure. Big fuking talk from clowns floating a merchant ship with a flat deck with no return cuing, without any armoring, magazine protection or damage control, and calling it an "aircraft carrier".

Has anyone here seen the latest Global Firepower Index calculations for the Navies?

It is weird. The scoring mechanism is the same but for some weird reason, they show Indonesia and South Korea ahead of us. That has to be a joke. I know the Japanese navy was ahead of us but we were the 5th. How the heck did Indonesia take that rank?

Their navy is minuscule.

It's one of the most useless rank list
And moreover this ranking of military has no value in real life
Anyway we must stay away from such ranking by any org

Gobar Firepower ranks power based on number, not based on quality and capabilities. For them a small patrol boat and an aircraft carrier is literally the same. Indonesia has 213 ships, most of them small patrol boats. They do have much higher Landing Crafts due to their geography. They have no submarines either apparently, not even a destroyer.

Better to ignore this.

Maybe related to Navy, who edited the Wikipedia page of Indian Navy's Next Generation Corvettes and Next Generation Missile Vessels. Because, their propulsion is listed as 2xMT30. Bruh, that's 70MW with each being 35MW. Even 7000-Ton FREMM doesn't have such. Atmost like Mogami or Chungnam it will have 1xMT30. Someone should edit it. I even doubt Navy gonna splurge on Gas Turbines on such sub-5000 ton vessels when they chickened out on an ideally excellent Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette like Kamorta Class which should atleast had 1x LM2500 without which, it was subpar atleast on Acoustic Signature(*all the duration), less range and Sprinting capability.
