Indian Navy to hold mega coastal defence exercise covering over 7,500 kms of coastline




New Delhi, Jan 11 (PTI) The Indian Navy will kick-start on Tuesday a two-day multi-agency military exercise covering India''s 7,516 km-long coastline, involving 13 coastal states and Union Territories, to further bolster maritime security and surveillance, officials said.
Billed as India''s largest coastal defence drill, the second edition of exercise ''Sea Vigil'' is being organised to check the efficacy of the measures initiated to plug gaps in coastal security following the Mumbai terror attack in 2008, they said.
"The scale and conceptual expanse of the exercise is unprecedented in terms of the geographical extent, the number of stakeholders involved, the number of units participating and in terms of the objectives to be met," the Indian Navy said.
The two-day drill is a build-up towards Theatre-level Readiness Operational Exercise (TROPEX) which the Indian Navy conducts every two years, officials said.

"Sea Vigil and TROPEX together will cover the entire spectrum of maritime security challenges, including transition from peace to conflict. Assets of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Customs and other maritime agencies will participate in Sea Vigil," the Navy said in a statement.

Shame that Turkey will get new LHD in 2021-2022, and 2 new aircraft carriers within 2030. Not to mention they will have sizable submarine fleet by that time. Meanwhile we are debating if we need submarine or aircraft carriers.

Why we are discussing Turkish navy. Turkish navy have issues with Greece and Cyprus. If we fear that Turkish navy will interfere in India pak conflict in arabian sea. Use a nuclear submarine (like akula) to maintain a sea denial for Turkish navy. We must focus on nuclear powered submarine more for sea denials to enemies.just like what USSR did to US in 1971.sea denial to US carrier fleet by nuclear powered submarine.

cost of constructing one carrier is alone 10 billion dollars and they are going to construct 2 such within 10 yrs lol . Go make some one else fool.

God knows why, but underestimating them for not having the capacity to design and develop aircraft carriers in general is bit of a stretch.

One question.
How dependent are the Turks on European and US defence technology.
Tomorrow if Washington and Europe stop all technical help can Turkey design and build independently all its weapon systems.
