=======
The Indian Navy is about to sign a multi-billion dollar deal with France for 26 Rafale M aircraft.
According to the French media, this deal can be signed between the two countries when French President Emmanuel Macron visits India in March.

I know. Better would be asking France to create assembly line for 81 jets. Lot of offset clause amount is pending from the first deal.
I still don't understand they are not going for hornets it has foldable wings, better availability, somewhat cheaper, same engine as lca,tedbf and navy already using boing product

we don’t want US govt or US congress to say they will stop spares whenever they wake on wrong side of the bed.

That plus this govt seems to actually understand the concept of spare parts costs of maintenance and commonality.

The goal is streamline induction not create a museum with multiple aircraft.

By the time mirage mig and jaguars go out of commission in the next few years India will be saving millions thanks to Tejas and it's derivatives having a streamlined maintenance and spare parts production line.

SH is heavy , pushing landing mechanism of the Vikrant to its limit.

Both have to be tilted , so folding wings lose its edge.

Already using Rafales + might go for JV in 110+kN engine. Have no expectation from US in this department.

I don't think reason is American ban hammer.

Hope they actually tests this before purchasing unlike mig29k
Rafale have been extensively tested from Navy's shore based ramp in Goa. Since orders are going through, it fits on the lift, or Dassault has agreed to fold the wings. Logistically it makes sense to buy the lighter bird, more hanger space, less stress on the arrestors.

Thats true but how will it be different from p8,apache and mq9
Fighters are much more critical. There are plans for C-295 based Maritime Patrol Aircraft. Prachand is already flying. And our drone program will eventually lead to fruition. So we have alternatives in the pipeline if Congress goes full retard.

@SilentlAssassin265

Yes I forgot to add..
more hanger space due to dimensions too.

Length
18M vs 15M

Theoretically You can fit
18 Rafales in the space of 15 Superhornets.

because P8 is based on the common 737NG aircraft and spares are easy to come by. Apaches are not in big numbers. We bought few of them to get an understanding and feel of them so we can incorporate the lessons into the LCH and we have an alternative to the Apaches, and MQ-9 are not really combat vehicles and if need by, we can design and manufacture an Indian version with a couple years.

We cannot make an MQ9 equivalent in 5 years minimum.

All pvt drone makers are entirely electrical propulsion based - ergo we have zilch experience in large fixed wing turboprop drones in the pvt industry

we do have an alternative in the form of Rustom if nothing else. The point being is that the grounding of the M9 will not diminish the combat capabilities and effectiveness of Indian forces should US decide to stop the spares.
