If they order just 3 more squadrons for shore based operations in addition to these 45, one at Goa, another one at Andaman Nicobar & 3rd one at Tanjore ,then it will economy of scale right??....That Su-30 sqn at Tanjore can be replaced with TEDBF and that Su-30 sqn can be moved north...
If we can position TEDBF/ORCA as a natural successor to Su-30s or even Rafales, we can have more orders than 45. Rafales and upgraded Su-30s are 4.5 generation fighters. We can have the AMCA and the TEDBF/ORCA in coexistence. AMCA would probably have a higher operating cost while TEDBF/ORCA can represent the low cost of twin engine fighters just like USAF is ordering more F-15 fighters even though they have F-22 Raptors and F-35 Lightining IIs. They are even thinking about ordering more F-16 fighters in the form of F-21 fighters so they can have a low operating fighter option for air patrol and regular combat duties that do not require stealth.

The irony of all this is that the old High-Low mix so derided by the Fighter Mafia has made a comeback in a grand way. Same goes for those who pushed for a one fighter fits all solution, it is never coming. Advanced versions of F-15/-16 now represent the Low while the F-22/F-35 represent the High of their Fighter Force. Same can be said about the Russians and the Chinese with the Mig-35/Su-30SM2/Su-35S/J-10/J-11 Family serving the low and the Su-57/Su-75(if it even reaches fruition)/J-20/J-35 now becoming the High in the High-Low mix. Also will hold true for us as the Tejas Mk.1A/Mk.2/TEDBF/ORCA will become the low while Upgraded Su-30MKI/AMCA become the High in the High-Low mix.

Upgraded SU30MKI if it makes it past the finish line fast. Otherwise it'll end up in the same space as the F15EX - it might end up doing just that. Problem is our fifth gen top of the line fighter that can operate sans any restriction in a hostile air space doesnt exist - Rafale F3R with SPECTRA is a good bird.

I feel IAF is betting big on the CATS family - on Warrior and ALFA S to do SEAD en masse, cut a swathe through IADS and create a channel for Sukhois, Jags and Tejas birds to exploit.

You guys should have seen Grp Capt KK Venugopal's presentation at the NIIO organised seminar two weeks ago.

Hi-Lo, F22 hi & F35 lo, F22 expense is increasing & F35 expense is decreasing, & overall cost of 15ex is higher compared to F35 & only reason USAF buying ex considering small strength of F22 & availability of infra/support/weapons., replacement of old f15 c/d, congress support to keep production line running and new 6th gen replace both f22 & ex. F 35 can't replace hi fighters like f22, f15 a/b/c/d/ex and USAF need 6th gen.
Don't gets confused with current gen vs previous gen, it take time & money to replace previous gen with current gen, 1500~1700 f35 replace all f16s takes the place of low & sixth gen hi in future.
In the case of Russia & China, they don't have the money or tech for Hi-Lo build up, & their 5th gen still need development and not par with US.

TEDBF numbers will increase over time . Navy will require approx 150 jets on its own for a three carrier fleet .

A naval stealth jet will only be developed after AMCA which means atleast 2050 for naval stealth jet. Till then navy will keep procuring TEDBF.

Regarding aircraft carrier. Navy should immediately sanction another vikrant class vessel. CSL says it can deliver in 5 years but let's count delay and say 8 -10years . So we can have third aircraft carrier by 2030-32.
At the cost of 4 billion USD approx. This will maintain 3 carrier fleet and ease up burden on vikramaditya.

Meanwhile navy can design their super carrier 65000-80000 tons by 2027-28 by which time navy will have extra 8-10 billion dollars to go for Massive supercarrier.

Which can go to production after second vikrant. And be delivered by 2040-2045 right at the time to retire vikramaditya to retire for good. While still maintaining 3 carrier fleet.

After 2045 we should be building 2-3 super carriers simultaneously just like usa today to expand fleet further if necessary.

Aircraft carrier debate is solely on navy which is insisting upon 65000 size for next carrier where govt is proposing sister class of vikrant. If navy accepts what I'm proposing govt will give go ahead fast as it has to protect skills at CSL.

P75I is also delayed because navy is demanding a submarine with proven aip and vls cells which doesn't exist anywhere as of now while govt is demanding more tot.

Requires F-35B to maximize its potential. 🤞
As long as US guarantee sanction proof continued supplies of spares and munitions, we will consider it. Problem is the cost of flying per hour. It is very exorbitant right now. And it is extremely expensive to maintain that stealth coating especially in a salt air environment.
