Krivak/Talvars are same as Type 054A chinis field. P 17/17A are the real proto destroyer-frigates.
No they are not. The Talwars are proper ocean going frigates with CODAG and top speed of 32 knots. They are meant to keep up with CBG. The type-054/054A are CODAD and more like general purpose P-28 corvettes (not just focused on ASW) . They can only muster 25-27 knots. A P-28 with the RBU-6000 replaced with Brahmos and 16-24 Baraks would be the same as type-054's.

LOL...

1. about the mission role described in the first section of Type-054A' project specification :

---the ASW role in the CBG...
----------------------------------

2. all Project 1135 varients : COGAG

----------------------------------
3. the new Gen Frigates...speed is not key any more.

FREMM: 27 knots(french)
F125: 26 knots
Type 26: 26+ knots
F124: 29 knots
Horizon-class: 29 knots

Any one has more info on this....
Is this on a Tableaux for Republic Day....... INS Vishal..... with Rafale M looks
Thats France canceled Aircraft carrier PA-2, that was suppose to replace Charles de' Gaulle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_aircraft_carrier_PA2

The only logical option is to create another Vikrant class AC with steam based catapults. EMALS and everything else is pipedream and its not a low hanging fruit from any direction.

A souped up Vikrant with flat top 50k tonn + catapult like Charles De' Gaulle will be much better and faster option. Rope in Naval group for consultancy and France for Nuclear propulsion heck we had used a foreign consultant with every ship class why stop now?

Can someone tell me if we have a anti-submarine missile under development or in service?
AFAIK, we don't have any in service.

Do we not intend to have this capability? If not, why not? I am actually surprised we don't have this capability. Does the Navy have an alternative to this?

No we don't have such missile, we have anti-sub RBU rocket.

Yes we would have such capability, But that would be included in future destroyers designs above ~10000 tons which may have UVLs.

Anti-Submarine Missile ....
A guided rocket which has a depth charge or small torpedo in warhead section, It is targeted near the proximity of a sub and then the depth charge or torpedo takes over.

Most destroyers/cruisers with UVLs have such missiles, Chinese also use it on their destroyers.

Is there any work going on in this direction? Has this even been mentioned as a desirable capability by IN at some point in time?

RBU-6000 is limited in range and the payload is rather simple.

@aditya10r here is another question for Commodore sir: Is the Navy considering fielding anti-submarine missiles? Has this capability not been pursued simply because of lack of a UVLS? Or does it somehow not fit into IN's ASW doctrine? Ask him about the threat to IN's submarines from PLAN's CY-5 anti-submarine missile. Thanks.

I have heard Naval commanders talk about this but not seen any presentation or plan by DRDO.

It will be clear only when the plans of Next Generation destroyers come out. A whole lot of weapon systems will have to be developed for that and will be as complex If not more complex than AMCA project.

Future next generation destroyer will have such capability most probably else Area defense will be incomplete.

I do think that we have specific RBU-6000 payloads that include guided rockets which send depth charges towards the approximate location of the sub being engaged.

Type 054A = P-28? What drugs are you on? One is a frigate, one is a corvette. Talwar Class and Type 054A have near identical radar and sensor suits except in the sonar department. They use the same SAM BuK, The same no. of AsHMs. Take a look for yourself.

Not sure. But they are dumber than torpedoes guessing by their size. ?
Any more info on the guided rbu.
I don't think IN is going to have anti sub missiles, kamortas don't have missiles and the rest of the ships have just 8 to 16 loadouts. Just playing enough for anti ship and anti Karachi ops:p

Navy might just be happy to first arm all ships with proper tower array sonars and and indigenous torpedoes. Long way to Go before anti sub missiles

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RBU-6000#90R_projectile

With reloads (72 - 96) it saves the need for separate vls.
With just 5km range it's like the last option for the ship unlike Missile based option. Further any submarine picked up by P 8i or ASW helo and info shared with a ship can help ship to engage the sub even before the sub can detect or engage ship. So those missile based anti sub munitions are pretty good additions

I guess you are talking about the 90R rocket? That deal was signed in ~2001. Still not in the same class as an anti-submarine missile.

RBU-6000 has a range of what? 4 km? CY-5 and its western counterparts are in the ~30 km class. The warhead of RBU-6000 is also not in the same class. In fact, Type-054A have an RBU-6000 equivalent over and above the CY-5.

Compared to the Talwar class:-
  • Type-054A's SAM is better (has 50 km range)
  • Their AshMs are inferior.
  • Their ASW capability is better.
