Against the backdrop of a freeze on procurement of Tatra trucks, the Armed Forces have started looking for alternative vehicles to equip them with their missile systems.

In view of Defence Ministry's decision to put on hold the procurement of Tatra trucks pending the CBI probe into allegations of bribery by former Army Chief Gen V K Singh, several key missile projects of the Army and the Air Force have been held up.

The armed forces are looking at trucks being offered by manufacturers from Russia and Belarus including the Volat trucksbeing offered by a Belarusian firm, defence sources told PTI here today.

So let's see MAZ from Belarus produces heavy trucks and from Russia we have Ural,Kamaz and Zil.

Better go with TATA

Tatra trucks to take part in summer trials by army

The summer trials are being held in desert and hot and dusty conditions at different locations across the country after winter trials of the participating companies were held late last year, army sources said.
The army has carried out trials of six-wheeled trucks and Tatra is among the six companies including Tata and Ashok Leyland taking part in it. The tender issued in 2009 for buying around 1240 trucks was open only for Indian manufacturers.

Well i believe the requirement is for trucks to serve as TEL vehicles, in such a case the only domestic vehicle we already have certified for the stresses a heavy missile can exert during launch is the TATA 12X12 which has been certified as the launch platform for the PRAHAAR system. the Agni series(apart for the AGNI 1) already uses articulated launch trucks the tractor of which can be any high powered make as it does not have to face any heavy stresses.
the only missile systems currently deployed on the TATRA platform are the Prithvi , BRAHMOS LACM and the AGNI 1.
i believe we should go with MAZ or MZKT/VOLAT for now as these are by far the most capable deployed heavy missile launch trucks available the world over today. simultaneously we should try to absorb some of the tech to build our own MAZ analogue like china has done with the Wanshan TEL wich is again based on a MAZ design.
