Another company to look out for in the future is AMW.
Though they currently don't offer 6x6 or 8x8 military trucks but with favorable indigenous push, it is not long before they enter into JV with foreign company to offer trucks for Indian Army.
They have capacity considering they are the third largest truck manufacturers in India after Tata and Ashok Leyland.

Gud that you provided, But contradiction to the words >>

DRDO now using TATA trucks..

No wonder, when they have more payload capability and powerful engine than Tatra-815

================

I cannot take account of BEML chief ( He is Not an Engg as claimed by you ) as he was caught red handed in the Scam for selling second hand trucks as twice the price ..

He added that an 8x8 heavy-duty truck, with a fixed axle and a missile loaded on its back, of another company had ``sunk'' during a test in the Thar desert recently.

DRDO head says Tatra trucks are fine

Contradicting Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh, DRDO chief V.K. Saraswat on Saturday said Tatra trucks were "outstanding" and there was nothing substandard about the vehicles used as base for launching all important missiles like Prithvi and Agni.

"Tatra truck is an outstanding truck... They have a very good cross country capability and can move at good speeds," Mr. Saraswat said at a press conference at Defence Expo here.

INDIA has handed over 679 vehicles to the government of Tanzania under an agreement signed between the two countries in January last year.

The vehicles -- to be used for military purposes, rescue and peace keeping operations -- were purchased from Ashok Leyland through the Exim Bank of India on a credit issued by the Indian government.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony held in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the Minister of Defence and National Services, Shamsi Vuai Nahodha, said the vehicles will help solve the shortage of transport in the ministry. "The vehicles have come at the right time.

Indeed, they will help us solve the problem of transport shortage," he said. Up to now, the ministry has received a total of 591 vehicles and 16 containers of spare parts. The Minister said that the remaining 88 vehicles will be received by the end of September.

"India has also provided additional four ambulances as a gift to strengthen health care in the army as well as civilians," he said adding that Ashok Leyland also granted three sets of workshop tools to improve maintenance capability in the Tanzania People's Defence Forces (TPDF).

On the other hand, the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania Debnath Shaw said his government has provided the ambulances to help improve health services in the ministry.

"Apart from that the gift is designed to improve and consolidate the cooperation between Tanzania and India," he said.

Tata Sons' Mukund Rajan says the order book size is in the excess of Rs8,000 crore and these are to be fulfilled in the next 1-4 yearsNew Delhi: Armed with the capability to produce drones, wheel-armoured amphibious vehicles and other sophisticated equipment, diversified Tata group is gearing up for a bigger play in the defence segment.

The group that garnered a revenue of Rs1,700 crore in FY13 is aiming for about 40% growth in the ongoing fiscal to touch about Rs2,300-2,400 crore.

"We believe, as a group, we are ready to enter into any defence sector that the government opens up," Mukund Rajan, member - Group Executive Council and Brand Custodian, Tata Sons told reporters.

Out of the over 100 operating companies that the group has, 14 entities, including Tata Motors Ltd., Tata Advanced Systems and Tata Power Co. Ltd. (strategic engineering division), are currently suppliers for various Indian defence requirements.

"The order book size is in the excess of Rs8,000 crore and these are to be fulfilled in the next one to four years," Rajan added.
Highlighting the advancement that the group has achieved in various areas of defence sector, he said some of the group companies have become exclusive suppliers to global original defence equipment makers apart from playing strategic roles in India's missile programmes.

Tata Advanced Systems has been selected as supplier for mini unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs) by Northern Command of Indian Army.

It is addressing RFPs (request for proposal) for ministry of defence, including infantry RFP opportunity, Tata Advanced Systems director Sukaran Singh said.

"We would need to have a separate unit, possibly expansion at our existing facility in Bangalore, to produce the UAV," he said.
The group's other major firm Tata Motors, which has been supplying vehicles to Indian defence sector for nearly 60 years, is also looking for a major leap in the segment.

"Our aim is to operate in the entire range, from back up logistics vehicle segment to the battle front with frontline armoured vehicles," Tata Motors vice-president (defence & government business) Vernon Noronha said.

He said the company is working on a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) funded project for wheel-armoured amphibious platform, which will be ready in about two years.

This is a modular vehicle with interchangeable snap-in modules, powered by a 600 horse power engine coupled to automatic transmission, he added.

Noronha said the company is also ready with a light armoured multi-role vehicle, which is used mostly in recce missions.
When asked if the Land Rover's platform could be brought for use in Indian defence sector, Noronha replied in the negative saying the specifications do not match and the company is not considering it as of now. PTI
