Captain among 3 killed in attack on army camp in Kashmir
An army captain and two soldiers were on Thursday killed when terrorists carried out a fidayeen attack on an army camp in Kupwara in north Kashmir.
The army officer killed was identified as Captain Ayush, official sources said.
The incident took place at Panjgaon at Chowkibal when terorists, suspected to be of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad stormed the battalion camp which is in-charge of road opening duties on the crucial roads in this area.
Two terrorists were killed as army foiled their attack, the sources said.
However, a hunt is on to ascertain if any terrorist sneaked into the camp under the cover of darkness.
Earlier on April 1, terrorists opened fire on an army convoy on the outskirts of Srinagar city that injured two soldiers.
Three soldiers were killed in a major terror attack on an army artillery unit in Jammu and Kashmir’s Nagrota on November 29 last year, when heavily armed suicide attackers entered the unit at with grenades and forced their way in.
Last year, 19 soldiers were killed in a similar attack on an army camp in Uri by terrorists who crossed over from Pakistan. Relations between Pakistan and India have been deeply strained since the attack, which marked the highest casualty suffered by the army in years.
