Indian Army To Buy 307 ATAGS Howitzers For Deployment Along China, Pakistan Border
The defence ministry has accepted the Indian Army's proposal to buy 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for deployment along India's borders with China and Pakistan, according to reports.

The Ministry of Defence has accepted a proposal from the Indian Army to buy 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) for deployment along the borders with China and Pakistan, marking a significant step towards 'Make-in-India' in the defence sector, news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.

The Indian Army has submitted a proposal worth more than USD 1 billion, which is currently being discussed. According to the report, it is anticipated to be cleared soon and given to the Cabinet Committee on Security for approval.

This would be the first order for the indigenous howitzer, which can strike targets at distances of up to 50 kilometres and is considered to be the best gun in its class, as per the report.

The forces have been testing the gun at various elevations and terrains. "They have been upgraded based on user suggestions," the report said.

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has shared raw howitzer technology and know-how with two private firms, Tata Advanced Systems and Bharat Forge group, and they will offer the system to the troops, which would include around 320 high mobility vehicles.

Between April 26 and May 2, the 155mm/52 calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) trials were completed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range (PFFR).

The ATAGS is an indigenous towed artillery gun system project undertaken in mission mode by the DRDO as part of the Indian Army's artillery modernization programme, according to the statement.

In addition to other DRDO facilities, the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune is the DRDO's nodal laboratory for the design and development of ATAGS.

The development was carried out in collaboration with two industry partners, Tata Advanced Systems Ltd and Bharat Forge Ltd, as well as active engagement from other industries.

Both guns' reliability has been proven by firing many rounds in various zones, including burst, intense, and sustained modes. ANI reported that the DRDO recently stated that high precision and consistency in range and line with maximum range had been obtained.

I don't know how he keeps his BP under check. IA orders only 307 that too contract signing pending. Despite years and years of trials. Then again there is no guarantee of further orders also. Yet he is developing a new version. Bravo ! (But maybe foolish).

That’s true bro. Indian MOD’s Byzantine procurement set up will make anyone loose all hope. Just happened to read that MOD has confirmed ATAGS receiving an export order without any country being named.

Can somebody explain what caused the Army to delay ordering of ATAGS artillery guns. Improvement on first edition are always forthcoming. None of the western military hardware came out 100% right on the first attempt. Improvements is a continuous process.

Who bribed whom and in whose favour to put a huge delay in its ordering.

Bribery aside, there is a strong anti-offensive weapons lobby within(bureaucracy, think tanks and some influencers within the forces).

Remember there were attempts to scuttle the M-777 deal too.

This lobby has absolutely no qualms in accepting small, piece meal orders of uber expensive imports which are fit only for a parade but offer no real threat to our neighbors who covet our land.

Kalyani embarking on an even better version of ATAGS

This is why we should support him by ordering massive quantities from his company. His company is taking up the slack and going several steps further than DRDO.
Did anyone asked him, where is his Titanium based ULH?

Forget his Titanium guns.
He is asking IA for the order for conventional steel ones. A businessman that has to depend on token orders from Armenia for his ROI. Anybody else would have shut shop already
Have you compared the amount of Israeli subsystem in his version of ATAGS with that of TATA one?

If my knowledge is correct, TATA would be getting 50%+ order of 307 ATAGS.

FARP, FARP, FARP I’m always hearing about the FARP but it has been on paper for decades only

The IA now has more IDDM options than ever from public and private sector across the board For the towed 155/52 there’s at least 3 IDDM options, for MGS there’s at least 2

SPG yeah they successfully killed off Bhim but K9 is around and they’ll more than likely end up with 300 (the second batch of 200 will be ordered within 18 months I’d say)

on top of the FARP there’s the 105 and 155/39 MGS systems from Kaylani on offer (the latter was specifically requested by the late CDS)

instead what is the IA doing? Keeping the ATAGS in trails and writing RFIs late in the day for foreign guns.

it’ll be 2045 and this FARP will still just be fiction.

Indian generals from all 3 services serving and retired need to be publicly flogged for the games they have played and continue to play. Under their watch india is getting weaker (relatively) and the military is rotting
Keep the navy out of it.

It's a mentality sirji nothing else, it's a mentality.
Plus our army is very weak compared to civillian government.
Look at pakistan, they are bhikmangas still they induct equipment which is better than ours at times but not always. And they induct those atleast try to induct those in numbers.
Heck Japan after meiji restoration literally took just 4 decades to make ships better than British, and their army defeted Chinese and russians on land in Korea.
The army tried hard and they were actually patriots and nationalists who believed in " FUKOKU KYOHEI " which literally means to enrich the nation and strengthen the army.
Our army is a colonial relic, they try to deceive us but there is actually nothing indian about the Indian Army.
Therefore ingrained love for foreign equipment and total aversion of anything Indian.
They try to pretend as if they will induct it after refining, truth is the army top brass is so immoral that they will part away with land, even return the budget but they will not do things faster.
All the above can be said about bureaucracy also.
